AP: Teaneck Native, 'Poetry Man' Singer Phoebe Snow Dies

Known for 1970s hit "Poetry Man"

Singer Phoebe Snow, best known for her hit 'Poetry Man,' has died, according to an Associated Press report.

Snow was born Phoebe Ann Laub in New York City in 1950 and grew up in Teaneck, the AP reported. She died Tuesday morning in Edison from complications from a brain hemorrhage, the report says.

Snow's "Poetry Man" made it to the Top 5 pop singles in the 1970s. She was a guitarist and songwriter as well, according to the report.

She lived on Palisade Avenue, according to an interview posted on the Teaneck Public Library website.  She attended Eugene Field School #8 and Thomas Jefferson Middle School.

"I had a wonderful childhood and being a teenager was difficult and I have mixed memories. I have very fond ones and I have real kind of rotten ones but when anybody says the word Teaneck, every once in a while I will be in a, doing a show and someone will yell out, Teaneck, New Jersey, you know, because in all the interviews, of course I mentioned it. That's where I grew up. And it always, I feel a pang. Sure I do. I mean it is my home town," Snow said in the interview on the library website.
