Why does every minute happenning in Teaneck get coverage but no mention of Barbara Toffler in a "lawn sign altercation" days before the Election???

Esti - who runs the media? Do you think media reporting is always fair & balanced? Let's hope the community has their voices heard at the polls today!!! I voted already. Was pleased with the foot traffic at the polling station. Everyone - please get out and vote today.

Esti -- the only active participant in the altercation was Chaim Kiss, who was instructed by Yitz stern to call the police. Mr. Kiss' behsavior was outrageous. Three witnesses (beside me) observed it. Mr. Kiss had placed Schwartz and Hameeduddin signs on public property (as had I, thinking it was my neighbor's property where they had given me permission to put a sign). When I founhd out we were all placed illegally I went to retrieve my sign and put it on the D'angelo's lawn. Because mr. Kiss had sandwiched my sign between and Schwatz and Hameeduddin sign I could not remove it without taking doen those two signs and laying them on the grass. I moved my sign and was about to replace the other two signs on the illegal spot, when Mr. Kiss grabbed them and started screaming at me. Perhaps someday I will understand the complete ugliness and viciousness aime at me. i've never seen such anyplace in the world where i;ve lived or traveled. I weep for Teaneck.

What was with the private citizen anti-toffler phone calls last night? Frankly I'm barely tolerant of the candidates reminder calls themselves but have absolutely ZERO interest in receiving unsolicited calls from non candidates giving me their personal opinions on who's running.

Having a paid advertisement from one of the candidates for Town Council(Toffler) on the same page as the story titled "Teaneck Election Day Guide" is highly inappropriate and should be removed immediately!

The ad for Toffler is on the same portion of the page as the title Election Day Guide and is not rotated. The Hamaeeduddin ad is on the top of the page and not visible when the Election Day Guide.

These are paid advertisements. They are not editorial endorsements. There is a line between editorial content (news articles) and paid advertisements. Customers can purchase a spot on the site. As JAD notes, the current advertisements are on a rotation with various candidates, national brands and local clients.
I need to stress that paid advertisements are never an endorsement of any candidate, brand or store. Patch does not endorse candidates, products, etc. Our advertisements are handled by a separate staff than our news coverage.
Please feel free to post additional questions or concerns here.

Not only did Ms. Toffler remove signs of other candidates, the police were involved. I read about it elsewhere, but wonder why it is not written up on other sites, like the Patch.

Let's not get started on comparing who's worse in this vitriolic campaign. Last night's phone call from someone claiming to have lived here for 55 years, mentioning membership on the Democratic Committee (hung up too fast to be accurate about the reference), and urging a vote against Toffler, was offensive, as was most of the rhetoric in the past few months, and what appears to be an effort to smear one candidate. All are entitled to their opinions and their votes, but let's keep it civil. Next time around, perhaps we can find more folks willing to run who will sit on our Township Council and demonstrate that they are tolerant, respectful of one another, and concerned with the good of all who live in Teaneck.

Judy - the most disturbing part I find about ALL local elections in this town, be it boe or town council is that it seems to always be NEGATIVE and anti-other candidates rather than platform, goals and how we can improve our wonderful town for all. I really hope that becomes the focus of some people moving forward.
As a side point though, I strongly believe that if an incident involving police, police reports and other the campaign is going on, as a voter, I have a right to know about it and evaluate it for its truth, accuracy, relevance and importance. As an adult and taxpayer in town, we should have full picture of what is going on.
I do agree, having 6-7 robo calls last night and perhaps 35 e-mails since 5 PM last night about elections is over the top. While I have NO plans to run [some have suggested to me to run one day, but I have not seriously considered it], the robo-calls, lawn signs and negative campaign approach is OFF - LIMITS for me. Rather simply have an educated conversation with those that want to discuss ISSUES and platform. I hope others follow suit.
Good post Judy.

Jason could you put up a link to the sign story. I did a search, albeit a quick one,and could only find one article that read a bit like an op-ed on it and would like to see a non opinionated version of the events. Getting a one sided version is not enough for me to judge an event on.

I have read this "article" about TOffler and it is very biased in my opinion. I found it on Google search and never have even heard of the publication in question. The writing is very one sided and even though i do not like Tofflers actions I cannot trust such a biased "report" on this matter.

Until the story is written by patch or the record, that's about all the neutrality you're going to get.

I hope no one ever has to experience what I have for the past 6 years -- most horrifically since May, 2010 when i received an email from David Lerer telling me that my every comment and action would be monitored and a formal complaint would be filed against me (who would have believed that was warninhg of the cooked up ":censure" to come. the past to weeks have been beyond belief in the endless attacks on me. Noah, perhaps you can do a documentation of the harassment and intimidation I have experienced.. BTW all -- the reason you didn't read about the sign incident is because there was no incident. The only person who did anything wrong was Chaim Kiss. He has 4 signs on public property which according to the Teaneck Code is illegal. Please check accuracy of my statement with Chief Robert Wilson.

The police report seems to state otherwise. I merely quote from page 5: "It should be noted that election signs are allowed to be placed on the township right of way as long as the homeowner who takes care of that property approves of the signs and that the signs do not obstruct pedestrian traffic."
On page 4 it says the officer spoke to the homeowner, Mr D'Angelo and he stated he gave permission to have the signs there.
Do you have a statute that states otherwise Dr. Toffler?
Jason Flynn

Ms. Toffler - I do not think the educated people reading the Patch or commenting are looking to attack you or another candidate. That would be in poor taste. However, when an incident takes place, involving candidates, week before an election, also involves police, and leads to a police report, I am wondering why a "NEUTRAL" publication / media outlet cannot report a balanced report, with quotes and materials from bystanders, all parties involved, link to police report, etc. Is that asking too much?
My understanding was that this issue happened on Sunday. I went to vote this morning at about 8:30 AM. I did not take this story into account when deciding whom to vote for, as I did not get a FULL, BALANCED report.
Wouldn't you also want a full, balanced report?
I am wondering why the Patch and other local sites are ignoring this story.

Teaneck....What is going on here??!!! It is so obvious that many of the people commenting have very personal agendas and are trying to disguise it through false accusations. Attacking the media for having paid advertising not to your liking and demanding an article on a police call where no formal complaint was filed is ridiculous. Grow up! No wonder the country is so divided. You, along with the politicians in Washington, DC, can't get beyond yourselves. Angry rhetoric doesn't solve anything. Teaneck will be better served if you channel your negative energy in a more positive direction. Enough!.. Go Vote!

i read this so called police report. it says nothign. Just one person said this another said that. Have any charges been pressed? Have any tickets been issued? no? who cares? Considering the police report is not confirmed by any reputable media sources i dont even know if it is real or edited. maybe The Patch and Bergen Record have better things to do?? we have bigger problems to worry about here and we are fighting about who moved whos sign. sad and shameful if you ask me.

I agree James. This is just petty nonsense to even be discussing when there are so many larger issues to address. Perhaps if the candidates and their supporters spent a little more time doing great things they wouldn't need to amp up these types of situations to point out an apparent negative.

In the end what should move the citizen's decision as to who to vote should be based upon one's perception of the integrity of the candidate and their ability to work with others and do what is best for the majority of the citizens of Teaneck. for me that means our current Mayor has earned the right to be re elected both today and as mayor by his peers. The amount of money spent on this election is one that we should all be ashamed of and a harbinger of limiting others from running in the future. Lets hope that the big money spent does not overshadow the the candidates who, with far less dollars to spend, clearly have the best interests of the town in their hearts, and not their own advancement

Well said. We have a lot to be proud of, regionally, state wide and nationally to be lead by our Mayor. He has tried to make Teaneck "one town" and not 3 or 4 sub-communities. He has looked after children's best interest and has been fiscally sound.
I share your concern that many are not interested in getting involved locally in politics due to the COSTS and the negative attitude. Honestly, I wish I knew a lot more about ALL 6 candidates before I voted, but most of what we read about is so negative and not too informative.
Stakes are high in many ways. I wonder if historically low turnout is because most people rather tune out when things are so negative!!!

What the hell was the president of the Teaneck police union doing there off duty? Why is no one addressing that? Did he influence the report? Why was the fact that he was present omitted?

I learned a good amount about the candidate ideas on here reading about the forums which i could not attend. i like the mayor concern about development in town, its important. i also think Tofflers budget idea is interesting. Campaign signs.. who cares!? everyone is just using this to thier own ends.

Why end at campaign signs - how about phone calls every 20 minutes, 2-3 e-mails an hour, etc. I think we get solicitation and commercials for national and state wide campaigns!!!! Also, I probably would not mind if it was more positive...but when focused on THE OTHER PEOPLE, and not your record, its a turn off.

I read it and frankly that may be one of the least impartial examples of "journalism" I've seen being passed of as straight forward writing.
Furthermore I am HORRIFIED that neighbors are taking pictures of tofffler outside of her home to have handy in case just such a "story" should arise. How would you feel if instead of 1.) minding my own business on what you were doing on your (general you, to no one in particular) own property or 2.) showing human compassion and concern for a neighbor who had the police at their home, I ran and grabbed my camera to take your picture so I can add a red herring into a story that had little else to it?
This is a non issue that some are trying to turn into Watergate for pete's sake.

No, please do read it. It's hilarious! I believe there is a point-counterpoint... Obama is a terrorist vs. Obama is a socialist. Makes candidate ads look downright objective. The surprise is, they're ALL right! I only read it for it's comedy value. Pick it up on Cedar Lane and spend your time screaming at paper! It's sure to give your lungs a workout.

Oh, please. Ms. Rosenbluth. You can't seriously think your JV&O is a serious journalistic product to be proud of. You destroyed a candidate for council 2 years ago with an article filled with lies. The fact that you published the story actually makes people dismiss Dr. Toffler's action as a stupid mistake, instead of something to be legitimately investigated by the prosecutor. I write this as someone who will vote for Mark and Mohammed, and hopes Dr. Toffler loses. Your actions as editor of the JV&O only worsen relationships between diifferent Teaneck subcommunities. You should be ashamed of the damage you have caused.
