Teaneck Man Charged in Englewood Double Murder

Man smothered 5-year-old girl to death after she witnessed her mother's murder, according to authorities.

CLICK FOR UPDATE: Man Accused of Killing Englewood Mother, Daughter Pleads Not Guilty

A 34-year-old Teaneck man stabbed his girlfriend to death and smothered her 5-year-old daughter with a plastic bag after the child witnessed her mother's grisly murder in Englewood, authorities said Wednesday.

Prosecutors charged Michael C. Brady, a custodian working for a private company at Leonia Middle School, in the killings of Englewood resident Tam Marie “Tammy” Pitts-Gaddy and her daughter, Natasia. Brady allegedly stabbed Gaddy, 40, multiple times during an argument early Monday.

Gaddy and Brady had dated for about three years, and he was not the child's father, according to Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli.

Gaddy's relatives confronted Brady Tuesday after they had not heard from her, Molinelli said. Brady went with the relatives to Gaddy's house on West Palisade Avenue.

"Brady then went to the crime scene with the family members and acted as if he discovered the bodies when he entered through the window," Molinelli said in a statement.

A passerby saw the group breaking into the house and called Englewood police, Molinelli said. Officers found Brady with two of the victim's family members.

Molinelli said Gaddy was found dead in a first floor bedroom and her daughter found in a basement room. Police had responded to previous arguments at the apartment, according to Englewood Police Chief Arthur O'Keefe. It was not clear if they involved Brady or if any arrests had been made.

The 5-year-old's cause of death was ruled as asphyxia from being smothered by the plastic bag, authorities said. Her mother's autopsy was not completed Wednesday, but she appeared to have died from "multiple stab wounds."

Brady stayed at his parents' house in Teaneck when he wasn't with Gaddy, according to authorities.

Brady's brother, Shawn, defended Michael in a Facebook message posted Tuesday after the bodies were found.

"Everyone accusing my brother shut up. You dont know how much he has taught me about love," the message stated.

"I'm so broken, I'm so confident in my brother and I hope he stays strong. I hope the law is fair to him because I don't want killers out running about. Tammy didn't deserve that, that baby didn't deserve that," another message posted late Wednesday said.

Neighbors in Teaneck said they were shaken to hear a local had been charged in the brutal killings. One resident said Brady's family had lived in the area for many years.

"It's scary, terrifying," said one township resident, who asked not to be identified. "You never know who's around the neighborhood."

In a letter sent to parents Wednesday, Leonia school officials said Brady worked the night shift through contractor Pritchard Industries and grief counselors would be brought in.

Counselors were also made available in Englewood, where Natasia attended the Quarles Early Learning Center, a district spokeswoman said.

Friends and neighbors in Englewood remembered Gaddy as a kind, giving woman who was seen around the neighborhood with her young daughter.

Roesha Hooks, 28, who said her mother was friends with Gaddy, stopped by the crime scene Wednesday to drop off a baby Jesus candle, lip gloss and a Minnie Mouse stuffed animal that she said reminded her of Natasia.

"She was so dainty, so delicate," Hooks said.

Another woman, who gave her name as Kesha, said her daughter used to play with Gaddy's daughter, Natasia.

"[Gaddy] was with her daughter every single day," Kesha said. "There wasn't a day that you didn't see them together."

Brady, a Jamaican citizen who has lived in the United States since he was 10, faces two counts of murder, weapons possession and hindering apprehension charges, and was being held on $2 million bail at the Bergen County Jail.

I hope he Burns in hell. He is a filthy animal that deserves to be punished in jail by the inmates in a special way. Everyone should know what I mean by a special punishment. I thank him for not punking out and taking his own life. Because as long as he is alive he has to think about what he has done. My heart goes out to the family. And I hope he doesn't get deported let him do all his time here in the states.

kay and bee,

I agree with you 100% but if he was enough of a piece of garbage to do what he did I don't think he has any remorse and won't think about nor care about what he did. NJ really needs to bring back the death penalty.

I know I'm going to stir lots of emotions with my next statement but this is why every single female needs a shotgun in the house. If she could have reached for it so could have protected herself and her daughter.

I can't wait until he gets to prison so that he can begin his life of hell and I hope that those guys are allowed to beat him unmercilessly, any man that's puts their hands on a woman or child deserves to live in hell before actually going there and I hope they rip him apart every day for the rest of his crummy life, he will cry like a bitch everyday

Are the two people above stupid? This is an article filled with accusations and perspectives of the victims family. There was no trial or evidence showing he had killed them. Go read something credible. If you havent noticed the media makes money off of you. People who believe the extra items thrown in to make the story sound juicy. No one would find interest if they heard the dull truth. "Well no evidence was found, so suspect is not convicted." Sounds wack right?

What you're negating is a lil something called probable cause that was most likely based on circumstantial AND physical evidence. Based on that evidence, the prosecutor is charging a double. That's where the credibility comes in. We will not know about all of the evidence until trial...unless the suspect pleads guilty. Yes, he is innocent until proven guilty.

You can rail on about the system and its problems, but it is the best in the world.

It makes sense to be horrified by crimes like this. But everyone deserves a lawyer. Without a fair trial, there is no credible way to know if someone is guilty or innocent. The system would not be a justice system if people were punished before being proven guilty. Everyone has a right to defend him- or herself, even the guilty.

You are right Joshua...but in most people's eyes is the bf who commits crimes like this...let him go through the trial he deserves as a citizen... I have in my mind the vision of that little girl witnessing her mommy get killed as she awaits for her death. Wish in some cases the court would skip the bs a trial brings and prosecute .

"Brady, a Jamaican citizen who has lived in the United States since he was 10, faces two counts of murder, weapons possession and hindering apprehension charges"

So he is one of the 11 million that came to America as an immigrant child, worked hard in a school and earned his chance at citizenship....until he put a plastic bag around the head of a 5 year old girl until she was dead and stabbed the person he "loved" multiple times, until she was dead.

It would warm my heart to see the Immigration Department pay a visit to his brother Shawn, after all "Everyone accusing my brother shut up. You dont know how much he has taught me about love.” Because if how he treated his woman and her daughter is any indication what he thought love was, then perhaps Shawn should be sent back to Jamaica if he is not a citizen either.

“The time is now for real immigration reform”....yeah, let's see how this is going to work out.

lol you're the only one that cares if I am a citizen? Why don't you come figure it out? lol you and my brother have no relationship so you should not even have a comment and if it were for the news, I would say this is none of your business. But it is and all I can say is come visit awhile, we'll throw you on the visiting list so you can talk to my brother and then you can tell us if that guy sitting there is really a killer. lol if you oppose stay quiet like you should have.

Tony,
that's the only reply I wanted from you. lol When my brother gets out I want you to pay for my whole immediate families flight.

Also, if you think there has not been at least ONE innocent person to go through a situation like this, you are about to experience the phrase, "A first time for everything".

I again don't want to argue with you, I just want you to wait for this trial as if you wanted everything to go in your favor and all the proof as to why you are right has to be hidden to make sure everything is safe for when the judge evaluates it. Be that patient and confident. If you don't think you know about the situation that well, save up your money.

Who said it took me 2 months? lol You are as blind to my posting as you are to this situation. I've posted the most here, probably was even mocking you this whole time. It's funny how much you know versus how much is the truth... probably even pretended to take your side to make you look even more ignorant than you had planned to look. lol you're a pawn kid, keep your money I am here for the justice

Ignorant? The story clearly states he is a citizen of Jamaica, it did not say he was a United States Citizen. Why did they point it out in the story? If he was living in Jamaica, he would not have been able to kill the women and child in Englewood, right? More than 50,000 American Citizens have been killed by Illegal immigrants since 9/11. That’s what the hell immigration reform has to do with a double murder of an innocent woman and her child in their own home. Even if he had a green card, the cops have been to that home before, he should have been deported and never had the opportunity to kill them. Where is the outrage?

He didn't do it... Everybody just knows what the media is saying ..which if you do research there is 3 different stories and none of them are true some have little facts that are true but the whole story isn't true .. Everybody saying all this stuff about him .. I don't know if he did it.. Of what cuz he is the boyfriend? How can the dumb ass prosecutor or police say he came back to the residence and acted like he just found them dead and didn't know.. How would they know he was there before and came back.. How would they know he acted like he was surprised to find them only he would know if he really did do it.. Let him speak... His lawyer needs to buckle up and get this case cracking .. They need to give him a lie detector test and look up his done records.. And see where he was at the time of her death and add 2 and 2 together they will get the tight answer...he can be easily eliminated .

Immigrants or someone being killed? The media is correct 100% of the time now? Now you are calling the system stupid ? By all means skip the educational process. The system knows how to approach this situation. you have an nj patch CERTIFICATE LMAO. I would listen to gonflo, none of your business, or joshua frausty before this article. Trust me, you know nothing about this topic, so instead of saying nothing you say the most negative thing about the guy? The guy who broke into a house to find his ex girl friend because her family asked him to go in for them because they were scared. Cmon now! The guy goes in and you say he only did it because he wanted to fake not knowing she was killed. Cmon now, what if he said, "NO!" she wouldve been like, "ooooh he killed her because he couldnt even check on her." what was he to do? Tony if you were innocent in this situation, i wouldnt give you trial. Not because i dont want you to have every single right you deserve but because you just stated you didnt want one because you're a immigrant like your parents. Just watch the trial thats the only truth you'll have. Comment later. Or you can pretend to not believe in the trial and be a slave to your own hypocritical mind.

I've known Mike for years and he is a respectable hard-working guy,... a gentle person who was raised right by loving parents and taught moral values.
I believe the man is innocent until proven guilty and the trial will verify this.

Don't pass judgement on him because of where he hails from... let justice pass judgement.
