Got Drugs? Police to Collect Medications this Weekend

Program aims to keep unwanted medicines out of the wrong hands

The following news was submitted by the Teaneck Police Department

The Teaneck Police Department will be participating in this year’s National Take Back Initiative sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration's New Jersey Division. We will be hosting a collection site on Saturday, September 29th & Sunday, September 30th. In April 2012, Operation Take Back New Jersey collected 16,000 pounds of medications. Nationwide, the program has collected 794 tons of unused, unwanted, and expired medications during the four previous takeback initiatives.

The goal of the program is to allow the citizens of New Jersey to rid their homes of unused, unwanted, or expired medications by turning these medications in to law enforcement officials who can in turn dispose of these controlled substances in a safe and non-hazardous manner, preventing these pills from falling into the hands of juveniles or into the illicit market in our communities.

If you have any questions or require further information, please contact Police Officer Eddie Hahn or Police Officer Daniel Garcia at 201-837-2573.

Why not just flush them down the toilet seems a lot easier.

Putting them into the water supply is not a great idea. Any idea how many drugs are in your drinking water?

Drinking tap water isn't a great idea either. I'm sure there are worse things than drugs in it. Actually there are a lot of people who should be medicated maybe they should drink tap water.

I wish they started this years ago. I have been discarding them in my regular garbage for years, not aware of the ulgy repercussions all around the spectrum. I know understand. On a lighter note.....with the constant changing of psych meds, I am sure I made many of the Teaneck rodents mighty high - ALSO NOT INTENDED.
