The "Harlem Shake," a new online dance craze sweeping across the Internet, has reached the steps of Teaneck High School.
A group of unidentified dancers performed their version of the fad outside the school in a YouTube video uploaded Feb. 24. Click above to watch the brief clip.

The video is one of tens of thousands like it to be uploaded to YouTube in recent weeks. The staff of Anderson Cooper "horrified" the news anchor and daytime TV host with their rendition. Corporations, marketing pros, senior citizen groups, The Dallas Mavericks and even a Norwegian army unit have also joined the e-fray of Shakers.

Uh, no. I thought my point was clear. Perhaps it wasn't. Let me break it down for you.
Years ago, before Youtube existed, there was a dance called the Harlem Shake. It originated in Harlem, and people from all over the world began doing the dance. It became especially popular in the late 90's, early 2000's. THAT Harlem Shake looks nothing like THIS Harlem Shake. THIS Harlem Shake is a farce. I think that THIS Harlem Shake detracts from the original because most people think that THIS is the orginal when it is not. If you want a more of an explanation of the Harlem Shake vs. the Harlem Shake, go on over to NPR. They have an article that explains it more.
If THIS dance were called the Teaneck Tremble, I would have no problem.

Wow fellow Teaneck resident everyone is taking this video out of contex. This video an dance does not have any profanity nor explicit or disrespectful aspect to it. It is Merly some kids reenacting a flash dance crazy where u dress up where silly outfits an just dance. Where is the harm in a little fun. And the setting of this video should not make you judge the professionalism of the institute, I am an Alumni myself an an very honored to have have a Teaneck HIgh education. This skit is performed by many others world wide and can be found on every social network. So please respectfully relax. This is just some people enjoying life and performing some art.

Show me Honor Roll students, science fair projects, debate teams, and students that are actually doing something positive that does not make me think that my tax dollars are being wasted. There's nothing new or original about that dance.

Okay, perhaps it's just me but I do not find it entertaining or interesting. I would like to see, in my opinion, positive images coming from our Teaneck schools. I do not see enough academic achievement. Yes, they can dance.....next.

Wow you all REALLY need to relax and enjoy life more. its just a funny video who cares about anything else? its not meanspirited or insulting, just people having fun. AND where does it say anywhere that the school PAID for this or that its even students in the video??? That one gentleman looks to be in his 50s. Hopefully hes not a THS student!!! Seriously, i thought it was fun. SOme "light" news. Calm down and move on.

I don't find anything wrong with the video, just that it should have been named Teaneck Shake, would have been much better because that's no the uptown dance. Actually, I know of a couple of the adults in the video.
I believe to make this video, it was free and you can tell that its quality is not of the best and that its all for fun.

That's not her point. Her issue, as is mine, is that this is not a rendition of the actual Harlem Shake dance. It isn't even close. The difference is like apples to steak. No comparison to Gangham style at all.
I have no problem with the video(s) either...just the name. Again, call it the Teaneck Tremble.
And how do we know this is a THS student?

Really? LOL. This issue is really not that deep, or difficult. Actually, the sub-text of the issue IS deep, but this is not the proper forum to discuss it.
For the record:
I take issue with each and every video named the "Harlem Shake" which puportedly shows individuals performing the "newest online dance craze." Each and every video called the Harlem Shake documenting the "newest online dance craze" should not be so-named, as it takes away from the original Harlem Shake dance that was originated in the 1980's. Each and every video documenting the "newest online dance craze" should be titled something differently so as to differentiate themselves from the original Harlem Shake. For example, the video in THIS thread showing the "newest online dance craze" could be titled the "Teaneck Tremble." Each and every other video documenting the "newest online dance craze" can choose whichever name they wish to call themselves, as long as it is not the Harlem Shake.
Whether the originators and subsequent performers of the "newest online dance craze" were not trying to replicate or duplicate the original is of no moment. My position is that they should have called it something else. Period.

Just because some children in this community come from families who can't afford to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on their education does not mean they are any less intelligent or capable of success. THS sends more than 90% of its graduating class to college each year. And yes, some even go to top tier schools. This video reflects nothing about the quality of education in our public schools. If you have an issue with that then might I suggest you choose a more appropriate forum to raise it. Instead, it reflects that our students have a sense of creativity and humor. It takes a village to raise a child, and if that village prefers to spend its time insulting students and alumni of its public school system and complaining that they're sick of spending tax money on such "disrespectful" individuals, why should they be encouraged to work hard? You want to see articles about the science fair projects and academic achievements of these students? Then ask the Patch to publish them, because they do exist. This video was created by students without any involvement from the school. The fact that they chose to film it on the HS property demonstrates their pride in their alma mater. Says a lot more than the disdain of people who've never stepped inside...

Sorry you guys are so upset, unfortunately we did not name it, so get mad at the person who stole the Title you are so up an arms about. Yes the reall Harlem Shake is better , but for the love of God they are just having a good time an following a new trend on the Internet. If the title makes you all so mad the.
