A team at Holy Name Medical Center is testing a new drug that could fight strains of the flu resistant to drugs like Tamiflu, WABC-TV reports.
"It means that we would have ways to fight influenza even if it becomes resistant to the existing drugs," Dr. Thomas Birch, medical director of the Institute for Clinical Research at Holy Name said in the report.
Although still experimental, the drug could be available in about three to five years, the report said.
Clinical trials for the Department of Defense-funded project stated Monday at Holy Name.
