In 1962, President Kennedy designated May 15 as Peace Officers’ Memorial Day and the calendar week in which that day falls (May 13 to 19 this year) as National Police Week.
Just eighteen months ago, the Township of Teaneck was particularly saddened by the loss of Officer John Abraham Jr. and on Tuesday, May 15, flags across the country will be flown at half-staff in memory of all the law enforcement officers that have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
Please take a moment to reflect on the sacrifice the men and women like Officer Abraham have made, remember the friends and family they have left behind, and also recognize the ongoing service of our current public safety personnel who protect and safeguard our rights and property each and every day.
During National Police Week, or any week, please take a minute to say “thanks” when you see a police officer and let them know that you value their service and commitment.
