New Cedar Lane Yogurt Shop Looks to Become Part of 'Yo Family'

Rotating flavors, healthy options offered at Yo Boys Frozen Yogurt.

A new family-run frozen yogurt shop has opened on Cedar Lane, promising to support the Teaneck community while offering a relaxing dessert spot.

Yo Boys Frozen Yogurt is the creation of brothers Mike and James Savas, and officially opened last week next to .  The "Yo Boys" are the brothers behind the store, Mike explained. Eight rotating yogurt flavors are available with a range of toppings, the owners said.

The shop satisfies the sweet tooth while offering no sugar added and non-fat yogurt options for the health conscience, in what Mike called the “healthy side of happiness.”

A message announcing new Reeses Peanut Butter yogurt was posted on the store’s Facebook page Monday, and James said they plan to switch flavors weekly. Yogurt and toppings are self-serve, then weighed at the cash register.  Toppings range from healthy fruit to the more tempting peanut butter cups.

The store offers all kosher products along with organic and gluten-free choices, the store Facebook page said.

Beyond serving up frozen treats, the owners said they looked to create a sophisticated environment that encourages patrons to linger. The store features free wireless Internet, a sleek interior and outdoor chairs to create an inviting hangout.

“We thought Teaneck could use something inspiring and fun,” Mike said. “We wanted to make a Starbucks kind of vibe.”

Being located next to the theater was no coincidence, with the owners hoping to attract moviegoers. Yo Boys also offers discount nights, including Tuesday “Student Night” and Monday “Ladies Night.”

Frozen yogurt has seemingly spawned a range of trendy chain stores, and while the owners said they hope to someday expand, they plan to build strong roots in the Teaneck community.

As Mike put it, Yo Boys hopes to become part of “yo family.”

The store is already a member of the Teaneck Fair Trade Committee and Mike said they plan to partner with local non-profit groups.

“I want to make sure that Teaneck knows we’re here for Teaneck,” James said.

A “charity night” is also planned where a cut of profits would go toward a local non-profit group, Mike said.

“We think it’s important to give back,” he said.

Frozen yogurt is a somewhat unlikely venture for the brothers from Cresskill. James has worked in the medical field, while Mike comes from an entertainment background including working with Britney Spears and other major acts.

“I’m normally on big rock shows, not opening up yogurt shops in Teaneck,” he said.
