Shane Riordan and Daniel Kindler coast back to the dock after winning their race and advancing to the championship heat.

Rowers from Teaneck and more than a dozen other area schools took to the water at Overpeck Lake Saturday for the inaugural North Jersey Championship Regatta, drawing thousands of rowing fans to the county park.

While North Jersey high school teams traditionally competed on Philadelphia’s Schuylkill River and the Cooper River in Camden, Bergen County officials have said the lake’s straight 2000-meter course provided an ideal venue for the historic event.

Teaneck Rowing Coach Clemens Reinke led the regatta. The Teaneck Rowing Club sponsors both the Teaneck and Leonia high school crew teams.

Check out photos from the event in the gallery above.

Another first for Teaneck! Not only did the Teaneck Rowing Club host a spectacular event in a beautiful venue, Teaneck High School rowers made a very strong showing, taking home three gold medals and a bronze. Congratulations to all the athletes!

In your photos you posted in connection with above article, you have Nathaniel Waldman tagged as "Joel Whelon". Specifically photos 1,3,5,7,and 12 need to be corrected. Also, in photo 3, you have the Coach Sarah confused with the team captain Sarah Fisher. Can you have these corrected? Thanks.

this is confusing. Our Republican County Executive stated that no one can enter the park, due to lack of an entrance and also that the area may be contaimanted and also that the park is a disgrace and she will get all of the taxpayers money back that was wasted to build this court ordered park, that Teaneck residents donated to the land for.... Now 4,000 people show up to row, and there has been no fraud and no contaimantion.

Delgado,
The County Executive did not order the entire park closed. Are you referring to Area IV? Here's some background that might be helpful: http://patch.com/A-jsWk. It's worth noting that the rowing event was done in collaboration with the Bergen County Parks Department, so clearly the areas used for the regatta were open.

Noah, I was referring to the County Executive campaign where she demanded an investigation into the area and stated it may be containmented. Also the County Executive has stated repeatedily that the park is terrible as no one can find it, yet the Patch alone reported 4,000 people saw rowing there and also there was a MS walk the next day... The problem is the Republican Admistration complained endelessly about the Democrats building this park as court ordered and now the Republicans are touting how great it is.,,, belated kudos to Democrats who had the foresight to build it so these rowers can enjoy it.
