Four blimps traveled up-and-down—or, more accurately, just above—the Hudson River Thursday from Bayonne to the George Washington Bridge and back.

The post-Labor Day blimp parade included the Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield Blimp of New Jersey, the MetLife Blimp, the DirecTV Blimp and the Hood Blimp.

Together, the four represented 40 percent of America’s blimps, organizers said.

Weather delayed the “Parade of Blimps” slightly; the four blimps made it to the GWB, where they hovered briefly and turned around, at just after 10 a.m. Thursday.

I find it hard to believe that there are only ten blimps in the US.

It does sound strange. Here's the exact quote from a press release:

"Four ships will be traveling the Hudson River on September 5, but you won’t find them on the water. Look up to the sky as four iconic airships (AKA blimps) travel up and down the Hudson River on a post-Labor Day blimping excursion.
It will be 40% of America’s blimps all in one spot, high in the sky, and having a bit of fun before Summer officially ends."

Now I know why I saw the DirecTV blimp around 9:30pm fly over my home in Scotch Plains! It was so low and scared me to death. An amazing site though.
