PHOTOS: Teaneck Group Holds 'Ride to Fight Hunger'

Event raises more than $83,000 to fight hunger in Bergen County.

Bikers and walkers hit the pavement Sunday in Rockleigh for the Jewish Family Service 2nd annual “Wheels for Meals” event.

The event was created by , of Alpine, who volunteered for the Teaneck organization. This year the event raised more than $83,000 to battle hunger in Bergen County.

“We’re based on Jewish tradition of values, such as raising healthy families, keeping our elders safe, and keeping a vital community. We serve everyone from all religions.” Jewish Family Service Executive Director Lisa Fedder said in a 2011 interview with Patch.

“We help many people outside of our community,” Fedder said. “If we can’t specifically meet their needs, we will put them in touch with other groups and organizations that can assist them.”

JFS offers clinical services, information referrals, individual and family counseling, job-finding assistance, and the group works with refugees.

Based on Teaneck Road, JFS of of Bergen and North Hudson delivers over 24,000 meals a year through its Kosher Meals on Wheels program, providing emergency assistance and other services to area residents, the organization said.
