I'll start since I created the poll. I've seen Bruce well over 50 times -- including like 20 in Asbury Park -- so it's difficult to say my favorite show or moment. For me, the Summer of 2002 stands out. It was June and I'd just been laid off from a high-tech company in Monmouth County after it went belly-up. They paid me severance until October. I spent weeks that summer sitting on the beach in Asbury as Bruce & Co. were rehearsing in Convention Hall.

They left the doors open for most of the rehearsals, meaning that I got to sit on the beach and listen to Bruce playing live almost a month. We were even let in once -- albeit briefly, and managed to get into several "rehearsal shows."

I know that's not one moment or one show, but it was a great "only in Asbury Park" summer.

Truely the best all-star cover band ever. Brings back memories of the Stone Pony, but can't forget how he would buy up his own tickets to add more shows, then resell the tickets at a premium as the shows closed out.
The original version of "Jerzey Girls" by Tom Waits kinda formed the cult for Bruce.
Waits songs like "Downtown Train" performed by Rod Stewart, and "Ol 55 also sung by the Eagles.
No one can deny Stringsteens commerical success.

I don't believe that this is true. If anything, he'd hold back thousands of tickets and then drop them on the day of the show -- normal prices -- to thwart the scalpers. I've seen it dozens of times.

Years ago when Bruce hit the scene big, I liked him and the band. When he released 'Nebraska' and it was touted as a 'critically acclaimed' work, I felt he had achieved the Peter Principle. His stories went from cars and teen angst to neo-beatnik psychobabble. Then, the anti-war stories. Then, the anti-Bush stories. Blah, blah, blah. 'Hey Bruce, can you please just play some music??'

To me, he has become one of the most overrated musicians of our time. He considers himself a person who represents the 99%, the OWS movement, the working guy - as he jaunts from coast to coast and visit his mansions in Rumson and Bel Air. Just another hypocrite full of excrement - with a soul patch.

Well put, Michael. I have the Bruce albums, but the stuff he's been putting out these past 20 years is pretty forgetable. He will continue to dine out on the Born To Run stuff for the rest of his life.
