Report of Missing Juvenile Prompts Search in Overpeck Park

Juvenile found out of state after park searched by air, water.

LEONIA -- Authorities searched the Overpeck Park Preserve-area by boat and helicopter Monday for a missing female juvenile, but ultimately learned she was found safe in Rhode Island, Leonia police said.

A New Jersey State Police helicopter along with fire rescue boats, were deployed in the park near the Teaneck-border. Holy Name Medical Center also sent emergency crews to the scene.

Police said they received information that the juvenile might be in the area.

I was wondering about it because somebody called me and was telling me they found a dead person in the water. Very glad to learn this was not true.

Would you rather a missing child NOT be searched for?

people really need to READ the articles before making comments. It says: Police said they received information that the juvenile might be in the area.
so that is why they searched in Overpeck. What is the problem??

Oh I read the article..."might be in the area" what was it a crank call? I think there might be a missing child in the Meadowlands swamp --quick send the helicopters and boats out! And then report the child found safe in Seattle Washington. SMH! Whatever, glad my tax dollars could help fund this search and the child safe and sound in Rhode Island!

OMG! Who cares they found the girl safe & they got reports that the girl was or might be in this area so they searched, she was found that's all the matters. If it was your child that was missing & Teaneck got a report that the child MIGHT be in the area you would want them to search it wouldn't you. Too many people comment on here & they nitpick everything little think. Like James said read the article before you comment on here.

OMG! seriously DMAB? If you don't like my comments then PLEASE do not read them -SERIOUSLY as a taxpayer and resident of this town I can nitpick all I freaking want and now that I know it irritates you that is exactly what I shall do! :D And FYI to you and James--I did read the article before I commented...and if it was my kid I hope that they would search in the right state at least :)

Karin,

Weren't you the person boasting about your big dog and (NON EXISTENT) right to carry a concealed weapon permit? Perhaps you can save all the taxpayers some money and head up any searches your 'expert' opinion finds frivolous.

As a mother, and taxpayer as well, I am glad that the child was found unharmed regardless of her location. Also without the knowledge of what the tip was it seems to be a bit of a Negative Nelly reaction to claim the search as baseless.
