Republican Bergen County Officials Endorse Rep. Scott Garrett

Donovan, Republican freeholders support Garrett

Republican Rep. Scott Garrett picked up support Tuesday from some of Bergen County’s top elected officials, including the county executive and sheriff.

Garrett, whose 5th District now includes a large swath of Teaneck, was endorsed by Republican County Executive Kathleen A. Donovan and Sheriff Michael Saudino, a campaign statement said. Freeholders John Driscoll, Rob Hermansen, Maura DeNicola, Board Vice Chairman John Felice and Chairman John Mitchell also endorsed Garrett.

“These Republican leaders are improving the quality of life in Bergen County, and I’m proud to have their support,” Garrett said in a statement. “They will all be an important part of my campaign this year as we bring our winning message of lower taxes, less spending, and smaller government to towns across Bergen County.”

Teaneck Deputy Mayor Adam Gussen is the first Democrat to formally announce a challenge against Garrett. Other possible Democratic opponents include Assemblywoman Connie Wagner (D-Bergen), Passaic County Freeholder Director Terry Duffy and former New York Giant Harry Carson.

Congressional redistricting merged Garrett’s Republican-leaning district with Rep. Steve Rothman’s district
