Steve, I'm assuming this is for Monday: I received a text message from Cedar Grove about 5:50 p.m. that says, "Due to the severe weather there will be no garbage or recycling collection. www.nixle.us/83MHH";

It is important to worry about the garbage. If people leave it out with the false impression it will somehow be picked up, that garbage will likely be washed into (and clog) storm drains. That will make flooding even worse. Short version - please everyone, secure your trash and do not put it out.

I logged on to township site -- Mahwah -- looking for notice about recycling. It would have been helpful to know for sure what servies are suspended today, Monday and tomorrow. Good point about garbage -- which holds for recycling as well.

Disgusting isn't it? Misfortune doesn't fit into the thinking of people who have had good fortune and want so badly, for reasons of self esteem, to think that they built everything they have themselves.

Mitt Romney would regard disaster victims as lazy seekers of handouts who need to take responsibility for themselves.

It is nice to have a place to be informed immediately about the storm. I am out of state in FL and am anxious to know what is happening in my home town and state.
Thank you all for sharing your experiences about the weather. I have been trying to access the state cams to see the storm in real time but most of them are not projecting or I am not looking on the correct sites! Having gone through many storms, I wish you all well. Stay safe.

I suggest that we all stay on the storm and put politics on hold for another day. No Tuesday garbage or recycling set for Mahwah. We had trash pick-up yesterday, but using my usual garbage plan, kept barrels inside and filled lawn & leaf bags heavily, so empties don't end up hundreds of feet downwind. Was just breezy, but who knew?

At 2:10, Moffatt had maybe a one-second loss, but was back on line long before our new required TV box rebooted. I hope the 707 homes get their power back soon, as Rockland earns enough, just like Cablevision, from us.

You're welcome Tom. It's so hard to say because there are so many people out, and its not like just a substation is out. It's wires and poles down, which is much harder to estimate.

Rohit, most of New Jersey is out of power. So, I think the Residence Inn in Parsipanny must be experiencing the same. Right now, there is no way to contact family members if the mobile phone battery dies out. I understand your concern as I am in the same boat.

Things are a mess , and power might be out for a few days ,
but just count your blessings if your home did not have to deal with Storm Surge Damage , ( the coverage reminded me of the waves we saw roll over Japan) , and say a prayer for those 80+ families that lost their homes due to the inferno in the Rockaway Peninsula of Queens ,

How many of you folks asking about power restoration timelines live under a rock??? Since LAST Thursday, the utilities made it CLEAR that if the storm causes widespread you will be WITHOUT power for AT LEAST 7-10 days and should be prepared for that. Quit your whining and come back in 7-10 days. PS, dont run out for milk and bread, that is long gone too!!

If the president had come to your house, turned on the power with his Magic President Wand, given you a back massage, cooked you and 23 family members a lasagna dinner, washed, dried and put away every last plate, let's face it, you'd be complaining that he didn't make the garlic bread the way you like it. Got it, Brad, you hate the man.
