Monica, Amazing Savings is closed and Kosher Experience is "lit up" because they had the wisdom to rent a generator. By the looks of the store over the last few days, they've served warm meals to many Teaneck residents. I think they should be commended for great planning.

It is infuriating that President Obama placed a congratulatory call to the president of PSEG for his tremendous efforts in restoring power to Newark. The President or at least our givernor, our state assemblyman or our mayor should question why those of us in areas unaffected by flooding have no power, our children have no school and PSEG is not at work in the area.

I live in Teaneck too and while we had no severe damage at my house, transformers exploded all night long around us. Trees were also down needing to be removed before children can safely " go to school". It doesn't take 2 minutes or 2 days to safely repair them all to get every ones electric up and running so trees can be safely removed.. PSEG has been in the area working, as ours is up and running, plus I have seen the trucks here or there working in town. They will always work on what is needed first, police, fire, hospitals etc gets first work, then of course those people who live home but are on some form of life support. Then those of us who are inconvenienced get taken care of. I worked for PSEG for years and KNOW when something like this happens, those workers (along with our police department, fire department, and outside workers) work unheard of hours to restore service as quickly and safely as possible. Not much to really understand here, not rocket science, just take a moment and think what must be going on. Just because you don't see it, doesn't mean its not happening.

If you see any PSEG crews in Teaneck post pictures of them. The city officials with whom I have spoken are not getting any response from PSEG. This is not rocket science. The city cleared the trees. Now PSEG needs to replace the wires. In the rest of the world this takes a hours not days. Power 50 or 51 out of 52 weeks a year is a third world joke, not something I expect of a $20billion utillity. By the way, the hours are not "unheard of." PSEG tripped over itself rushing to file claims with Utility Board over the costs for Sandy before they reportted earnings this morning. They let everyone in Trenton know what they are doing so they can raise rates as soon as possible.

Trees are still on the streets.... I have never seen such a bad response from the DPW in the shameful history of Teaneck..... No body is taking care of the business..... Hi! I just came up from West New York on a NJ Transit Bus, where a majority of that town did lose its power. I stayed at my daughters dads house over night. I have to tell you on the ride up...a good portion of North Bergen (twice the size of Teaneck), all of Guttenburg, a good portion of Fairview, Ridgefield, the entire Village of Ridgefield Park, and Bogota ARE STILL IN THE DARK. 85% of Teaneck's power HAS BEEN RESTORED!! Relax people!! Are you folks aware of what the people in South Jersey are facing?!?!?! Be grateful, you have homes to go to!! I never in my life heard such whiny people over such BS!! SHAME ON YOU!!! Be grateful for what you have! Thank God for what you have! PSEG have workers that are people, like you and me, they are doing what they can as fast as they can, they need to eat, go to the bathroom, and sleep like you and I. Stop your whining!! I wish there was a way, that I didn't get emails of notifications from the Patch when all I see all these whiny comments. SHIT! I'd rather get spam. SHAME ON YOU.

Lisa, 85% of Teaneck is not restored. Of the people I know at least half are without power still and the main streets are all in the dark too, so all the people who rely on work in Teaneck are without pay. Obviously people have it worse than us, but it still sucks. And your estimates from being in a tinted bus aren't at all accurate. And there is a way you don't have to get notifications. Simply uncheck "send me updates for this article" when you post. I'd rather a hundred Sandys than to have your lack of internet skills

It is people like you who encourage bad performance shown by our DPW and our town administrators..... We demand action and that is whining.....

Lisa: i agree 100 percent!! Look at the pictures of the Shore. Very very sad. Now people (who obvioulsy can go online!!) are whining about no power! I know its bad, I am out too BUT there are some bigger problems here. PSEG doesnt care about our little town but at least we are not DEAD or having houses washed into the Ocean!
Be calm people!!

Of course, you can say that other people have it worse. They absolutely do. But that has nothing to do with PSEG. I drove past the GCPlaza and there were tens of trucks in the parking lot with an equal amount of workers standing around. Now it could be that they were taking a break -- i would have liked to wait around and see. There have been very few PSEG trucks in teaneck. I drove around this morning and my area has not been touched by clean up crews from the town (it appears) or PSEG (for sure). I dont think there is a great conspiracy -- but i think from a business point of view -- we should get more from a company that knows that this is one of the issues it must face in doing business. As someone said, rates wont go DOWN after this -- and in essence -- there is really no where else to go. (PSEG provides the service -- even if you "Get it" from sone one else).

Just found out that it's not just a matter of fixing the downed wires in most of teaneck...apparently the power substation or whatever it is near the Rhoda Center was severely damaged and many crucial pieces need to be replaced. So clearly the PSE&G people are not fixing wires because theres no power to send through them in some places so their efforts are worth more elsewhere. It's going to be another week before most of teaneck gets power. At this point, complaining is useless. Be thankful for what you have and try to find family or friends to stay with if possible. Also people who work in Teaneck and elsewhere with no power can apply for disaster unemployment aid. Obviously it's not going to make up for all of the financial loss but it's better than nothing...

MP where did you find out that information? If its true its a crime that there has been no communication to the township residents of this issue. Two days ago a Teaneck councilman emailed many residents that pseg said 3 to 6 days - if it's now another 7 or more, it would be helpful to know so that we can plan accordingly. Where is the leadership in this town - where is the effective communication? Yes NJ was hit hard, yes many towns have been hit harder, yes we (including myself have no power) - yes pseg is working hard - this all does not excuse ineffective and inconsistent and under reported information from our town

I have not received a single communication--official or otherwise--throughout this entire debacle. I just moved to Teaneck from another NNJ town where the communication was plentiful and ongoing, both on a regular basis and particularly in a crisis. As taxpayers, that's something we should expect and demand from our elected officials. Teaneck's town officials have failed woefully in their duty to communicate with its taxpayers/citizens. Beyond that, it's appalling that they are unable to work with PSEG to get our town's service restored in some kind of a reasonable timeframe.

I'm not on the township payroll or a beneficiary of anything other than a positive outlook. Given the circumstances, I'm OK with how things are progressing. That's the difference between me and you. I see the glass as half full. You see the glass as not being Baccarat.

Do you think I like not having any power or other creature comforts? Nope. Will this be forever? Nope. In the grand scheme of things, are we fortunate? Absolutely. Do I suggest that you channel your frustration to the appropriate agency? Yep. Suggesting that you picket the township manager's house is incredibly ridiculous, especially since....welp, he doesn't even live here. LOL. LOL.

The angst that I do not understand is people complaining about the lack of communication.

Finally; yes, you should be MERRY. But, your misery does not know the word. It's painfully obvious.

Godspeed. Have a better day.

Lisa B. - I completely agree with you. Yes, we have no power and it's awful but I know PSEG is doing its best to restore power to us all. My brother has been working for sanitation around the clock in NYC where he works. Today his garage was sent to Rockaway Beach, NY......there were lines of people, like you and I, waiting for a free warm meal (that literally can last for 3 years.) They have nothing. So it is hard to here negativity when oddly our town has had WORST effects from smaller storms and aside from power loss and some downed trees we are still in great shape. When we all have power, we will resume with our regular lives but our beaches and so many towns will have a long road before they are able to get there. I can deal without power for a time, not saying its easy.....But I am just grateful my home still stands and most of our homes as well. Negativity breeds negativity.

I am a woman born and raised in Teaneck (656 Kent Ave.). Born in 1959, attending Emerson Elementary School, Bryant 6th grade, Thomas Jefferson Jr. High School, and Teaneck High School (class of 1977), I lived in Teaneck until 1979 until I moved to West New York for work, and eventually moving out of state in 1980 after marriage. Teaneck has always remained ever so lovingly remembered in my mind and though now in Houston, Texas (work), I still think of Teaneck as home. I want you all to know that all of you are in the forefront of my prayers. Nothing in the world could ever change the way I feel about NJ, Bergen County, and especially Teaneck. Although I am retired on Medicare disability and my finances are very limited, as soon as my next Medicare check comes in (EOM), I will send what I can to help out as much as I can. Please know there are other Jerseyites down here, even some from Bergen County, who are praying for you too. God bless and help every single one of you.
