Sanzari's New Bridge Inn Seeking Approval to Expand

Plan calls for expanding parking lot, restaurant near Teaneck

Sanzari's New Bridge Inn is seeking approval to expand its parking lot and restaurant by knocking down two homes in New Milford, near the Teaneck border.

Residents in New Milford and Teaneck have attended a borough zoning board meeting to voice concerns over the expansion plan. The restaurant is located near Riverview Avenue in Teaneck, an area which often floods in heavy rains.

The restaurant is seeking to expand by about 600 square feet and build a larger parking lot, according to Teaneck Township Attorney Stanley Turitz.

"There's overwhelming non-support for this project from the residents,' Teaneck Mayor Mohammed Hameeduddin said at Tuesday's council meeting.

Although the work will be done in New Milford, Teaneck officials will review the plans to explore formally opposing the work.

The hearing has been scheduled for the June 12 meeting of the New Milford Zoning Board.

Even now, the area near the New Bridge Inn floods in anything more than a drizzle, often leaving that entire section of Old New Bridge Road on both sides of the building completely impassable due to as much as a foot or more of water. I find it hard to believe that adding a larger building and covering significantly larger sections of the area near the current structure with even more impervious surface won't make the flooding problems that much worse than it already is.

I agree! Plan is totally against proper use of wetlands, which that area is. Also, the houses near the Inn are treasures! Beautiful, unusual art, both inside and out (I was invited in by the charming owner!). They should be preserved, not torn down for a parking lot!

Diane: I am against all preservation that would end up costing tax payers any money. Our main concern should be lowering of taxes in Teaneck...... in every thing we do. The taxes are way too much and increasing every year.

I agree, hopefully this restaurant and parking lot in New Milford doesn't raise the taxes in Teaneck.

I hope it does not happen do we really need more parking I remember when this guy did not own the New Bridge Inn and it was a nicer place to eat you could sit outside and enjoy the park and fit into the area.
