Synagogue to Honor Teaneck Mayor
Mayor to receive award for efforts to bring together local religious and ethnic groups, congregation says.
Congregation Netivot Shalom will honor Teaneck Mayor Mohammed Hameeduddin for his work to build bridges between religious and ethnic groups, the shul announced.
Hameeduddin, Bergen County's first Muslim mayor, is set to receive the Special Tribute Award at the congregation's March 9 annual dinner.
“As a Muslim mayor in a very religiously and racially diverse town, it is very important to find ways—through words and gestures both large and small—to bring the various communities together and foster a greater understanding and appreciation for one another,” Hameeduddin said in a news release.
The ceremony will also honor Mark and Ilene Pollack, and Galit and Jeff Cohen.

Congratulations to the honorees. Mayor, you continue to lead and set a fine example for our citizens and, more importantly, our children.
