Teaneck Councilman Named to Statewide Legislative Committee
Councilman says he looks forward to working on issues impacting Teaneck
Township Councilman Yitz Stern has been appointed to the New Jersey State League of Municipalities Legislative Committee, giving the elected official a voice in the League’s legislative policy-making.
League of Municipalities President and Mount Arlington Mayor Art Ondish named Stern to the committee, according to a news release. The committee, made up of more than 125 elected and appointed officials, meets monthly to articulate the League’s position on legislative issue pending consideration before the New Jersey State Legislature.
“It was an honor to be asked to serve on this Committee,” Stern said in the release. “I look forward to being a part of the development of legislation in Trenton that affects the lives of Teaneck residents and the day-to-day workings of the Township.”
Ondish said Stern’s background will be an asset to the League’s highest legislative policy-making body.
“Councilman Stern’s professional experience, in both the public and private sector, along with his service as an elected official in Teaneck will contribute greatly to our committee deliberations and we are honored to have an individual of his caliber join the Committee,” Ondish said in the release.
Stern, an adjunct professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University, was first elected to the Township Council in 1998. He has served as deputy mayor and on Teaneck’s Planning Board, Board of Adjustment and Environmental Commission.
“The League of Municipalities is a voluntary association created to help communities do a better job of self-government through the pooling of information resources and brain power,” according to the release.
