Teaneck Demonstrators Mark 9th Anniversary of War in Afghanistan
About 20 people gathered to protest the War in Afghanistan last week at an event marking the 9th Anniversary of the conflict.
About 20 people from Teaneck and surrounding towns gathered at the Teaneck Armory Wednesday to protest the War in Afghanistan.
Members of the Bergen County Chapters of Military Families Speak Out and Veterans for Peace shouted support for the troops and alternative uses for tax dollars going towards the war effort.
Teaneck residents Nancy and Walt Nygard have a son currently serving in Afghanistan after being recalled to duty last December as an IRR (Individual Ready Reserve) soldier. According to his father, Walt, he had already completed two tours of duty in Iraq, and been honorably discharged from the army. The Nygards, along with Teaneck resident Paula Rogovin, initiated the weekly war vigil at the Teaneck Armory five years ago.
