Fire Sends 2 to Hospital in Teaneck
Township firefighters quickly knocked down a bedroom fire Tuesday night, officials say.

Two people were treated for smoke inhalation after a fire broke out at a house on Franklin Road Tuesday night, officials said.
Firefighters were called to the house shortly after 9 p.m. and found flames in a second floor bedroom, according to Teaneck Fire Chief Anthony Verley. Township fire crews, on the scene within two minutes, were able to quickly extinguish the fire.
One of the residents was found on the second floor and had to be rescued by a fire officer assigned to Teaneck's Engine 1, the chief said.
"Once again, a quick response by fire department units made a significant difference," Verley reported.
Verley said the occupants were taken to Holy Name Medical Center. Their conditions were not immediately available and the cause of the fire remained under investigation.
An engine from Hackensack and a ladder truck from Bergenfield stood by in Teaneck to pick up any additional fire calls.

Why were fire companies from adjacent towns standing by in Teaneck, aren't all our fire houses manned?

Of course our stations are manned.
Whenever a significant fire event occurs, it is not the least bit uncommon to call for Mutual Aid from nearby communities. Some of tis aid assists at the scene, while other elements "stand by" at stations in the event another event occurs. Since Teaneck is one of very few Bergen communities with a fully staffed 24/7 service, this aid is provided more often than received.
It's one if the behind-the-scene measures routinely taken to protect you and fellow residents.

I beg to differ. Station 4 is not always open due to staffing issues. At times they station the ladder truck there but there are many nights when the Northwest's fire station is closed

Not a contrary opinion here, John.
Bottom line is there was no compromise in fire protection for the Township during the event.
By the way, Mutual Aid is also used by the Ambilance Corps, which is fully staffed by VOLUNTEERS.
How do I know? I have been a member for 40 years.

You're saying there is no compromise. That does not refute what Diggler posted.
