Teaneck Road Blockbuster Store To Close
Store is selling its stock, no longer offering rentals before closing date.
Teaneck’s Blockbuster store is closing, according to store employees.
It was not clear when the store’s last day would come, but store employees said it would likely shut down in March. The store has stopped renting movies and is now selling off its inventory. Although a banner says the store is moving, another employee said it was not relocating.
DISH Network spokeswoman Danielle Johnson declined to comment on any specific store closing, but said the company would continue to evaluate the performance of each store.
“As we have said in previous statements, we remain committed to maintaining only those stores that we believe we will be able to operate profitably,” Johnson said in a statement. “For employees of any closing stores, we intend to relocate as many employees as possible to other stores.”
DISH bought Blockbuster for $234 million, according to the Associated Press.
Blockbuster filed for bankruptcy in 2010 and planned to close a significant amount of stores as part of a restructuring effort, the New York Times reported. The movie rental chain has been faced with stiff competition from services including Netflix, which allows customers to have movies delivered by mail and now online.
“Blockbuster continues to focus on its Blockbuster Total Access DVDs By Mail service where, for a flat monthly fee, customers have access to over 100,000 titles, Blu-ray and game rentals, and in-store exchanges at participating Blockbuster stores,” Johnson said.
The approximately 6,000 square foot space, at the State Street and Teaneck Road shopping plaza, is available.
A note to customers posted on the front door apologized for any inconvenience caused by the closing.
The message, signed by "Teaneck Staff" read, "Thank you for your support over the years."

I thought they were all closed-the one on Cedar Lane's been closed over a year and a half now. I thought they only did it thru the mail now. Sorry that they are closing-but I guess with RedBox in the grocery stores now & Netflix etc no one goes to the Video Store anymore. Hope those people can find a job, good luck to them.

I was wondering how long the Teaneck Rd/state Street location would stay open... sad for these people. Very bad times out there now.
