Tornado Watch Extended for Bergen County

Storms possible through early Wednesday, weather service reports.

 

A tornado watch for four counties in Northern New Jersey has been extended through Tuesday night, according to the National Weather Service.

Bergen County is under a tornado watch until 9 p.m., the weather service said. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for the area until 8:30 p.m.

Thunderstorms could produce damaging winds at more than 60 mph, the latest forecast said.

Power outages were being reported across Teaneck, PSE&G said. The utility could not provide town-specific information. 

The National Weather Service forecast for Tuesday night:



Showers and thunderstorms before midnight, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between midnight and 2am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2am. Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds and heavy rain. Low around 61. Breezy, with a south wind 16 to 21 mph becoming west 10 to 15 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 43 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
