Tornado Watch Issued for Bergen County

Storms possible through Saturday night.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for the area through Saturday night.

The watch is in place for Bergen, Essex, Union, Passaic and Hudson counties until 9 p.m., according to a weather advisory.

Forecasts say showers and thunderstorms are possible, with a quarter and half of an inch of rain possible.

A tornado watch means a tornado could form, but is not imminent.

“They normally are issued well in advance of the actual occurrence of severe weather. During the watch, people should review tornado safety rules and be prepared to move a place of safety if threatening weather approaches,” according to the National Weather Service.

I know Wyckoff did about 15 or so years ago. Destroyed a couple of homes on the Midland Park border.

Yeah obviously it is clear now! But lets wait and see. The forecast is not looking for good the afternoon/night.

This should be on the main page. Today is going to be a bad day weather wise. There are already confirmed tornado's to our west and some possibly to our north. It is going to get worse as the day goes on. Please be careful outside today, and secure your outdoor furniture and garbage cans.

What tornado safety rules? What place of safety?

Would not it be nice to clarify the above in the Patch article? Then we could be prepared?

I remember a tornado touching down in Allendale for about 200 yards, about 10 years ago...
