Tour of Steuben House, Greenway Planned Saturday
Walk to be led by long-time curator of Bergen County’s historic Steuben House.

Kevin Wright, long-time curator of Bergen County’s historic Steuben House, will lead a walk around Historic New Bridge Landing and along the Hackensack River Greenway on Saturday, September 8th beginning at 10AM. This free tour is co-sponsored by the Friends of the Hackensack River Greenway through Teaneck and the Bergen County Historical Society.
Mr. Wright’s walk will begin in the northwest corner of Brett Park at the foot of the old swing bridge. The walk is expected to take about 1½ hours but one may leave at any point.
Mr. Wright has done research and published papers on his museum and on historic New Bridge Landing. In addition to his interest in human history, he worked to bring back native species in the area around the house. A past president of both the Sussex County and Bergen County Historical Societies, he brought worldwide attention in 1985 to New Jersey's claim of sovereignty over Ellis and Liberty Islands. He writes extensively on local history
On this walk, the concentration will be on the land on the Teaneck side of the river, including New Bridge Landing and Brett Park. The area is rich with history from the American Revolution, colonial times, and from when Native Americans were the only people there.
This is just one of events sponsored by the Friends of the Greenway. Others include short and long walks, guest lectures, a concert on the Greenway and more. The Friends of the Greenway is a grassroots, volunteer organization dedicated to supporting and encouraging the development, maintenance and full use of the Greenway.
