Time-lapse NASA animation shows Hurricane Sandy from a satellite
NASA has released time-lapse footage showing Hurricane Sandy over the Bahamas on Friday.
"The image above shows Sandy on October 26, 2012, at 5:00 p.m. EDT, when light from the setting sun highlighted the structure of the clouds. At the time, maximum sustained winds were 75 miles per hour (120 kilometers per hour)," according to NASA's Earth Observatory.
Gov. Chris Christie declared a state of emergency Saturday ahead of the storm's likely hit on Monday. Local officials have urged residents to prepare for what forecasts say could be a devastating storm.
