Weekend Guide: Jazz at Classic Quiche, Golden Circle Performance

Find out what's going on in Teaneck this weekend.

The Golden Circle Theatre Workshop will present its 6th showcase on Saturday, May 7, and early Mother’s Day Celebration which will include a variety of performances by the women of the Golden Circle. The show features women 55 or older, and will include, dialogues, monologues, a praise dancer, and more.

“We train them how to perform various types of performances,” said Veona Thomas, the director of the Golden Circle. “The showcase is a variety of things. This season I’ve trained some of the women to write their own material and some of it’s very good.”

Many of the women never performed before joining the Golden Circle. Saturday’s event will feature performances by Naomi Brogdon, Brenda Crocker, Norma Ferraro, Lillian Knight, Ellen Pearl, Verma Richardson, Zandra Strother and Miriam Taub.

“I find it very exciting when someone doesn’t know how to do something and they turn everything around and do something,” said Thomas. “I think that’s brave.”

Alumni of the Golden Circle workshop will also perform, as well as a special performance by guest vocalist Tim Douglas who will sing a tribute to mothers.

The show begins at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, but before the show will be a continental-style breakfast at 10:30 a.m. Tickets are $12 at the door.
