Who Won the Debate? NJ Insiders Split Along Party Lines

However, over 80 percent believe President Obama will be declared the "consensus winner" by media outlets.

New Jersey political insiders declared their party’s candidate the winner of the second presidential debate Tuesday night. However, most believe President Barack Obama will be the consensus winner among national media outlets over Mitt Romney.

According to a Patch flash poll sent to elected officials and political party insiders, 24 out of 27 Democrats responding believed Obama was the victor, while 20 out of 24 Republicans declared Romney the winner.

“I think Romney had a better understanding and explanation of how to create jobs and grow the economy. He looked much more presidential,” one Republican said.

The results of Patch’s second presidential debate poll of New Jersey insiders contrast with those from last week’s head-to-head, in which 100 percent of Republicans surveyed and 41 percent of Democrats gave the victory to Romney.

In Patch’s first debate poll, 70 percent of all respondents believed Romney would be declared the “consensus winner” in that showing.

Approximately 82 percent of those surveyed, including 16 of 24 Republicans, believed Obama would be declared the “consensus winner” of the second debate by national media outlets.

“Obama was back,” one Democrat declared.

Many respondents made mention of moderator Candy Crowley in pointing to debate moments that would stand out among viewers.

In response to the question “What moment will stand out in the mind of conservatives in New Jersey?” one Republican said “Candy Crowley acting more like Obama's debate partner than a moderator.”

“It was disappointing to see Obama get away with his misrepresentation of the Benghazi attack,” that Republican said. “We know the administration—and Obama himself—repeatedly denied what common sense told us from the start: that it was a premeditated act of terror, not a spontaneous demonstration that spiraled out of control.

Democrats also highlighted the Benghazi attack exchange as a highlight of the evening, though from a decidedly different perspective.

When asked what moment of the debate would stand out to progressives and liberals in New Jersey, one Democratic respondent answered: “Obama's response on women's health issues and the Presidential response on the Benghazi attack issues by Romney which was misrepresented. Obama came out as a fighter and advocate for the middle class, veterans, senior citizens, working 47 percent that Romney called victims and not taking personal responsibility.”

That same Democrat criticized Romney’s tone during the debate: “Romney was rude to Candy Crowley and was flustered when he was challenged on his positions by the President.”

Patch Red and Blue Garden State surveys were sent to 190 Democrats and 145 Republicans. Romney won. All he had to do (and he did) was to discuss Obama's failed policies of the last 4 years. Romney discussed the national debt going from 10 trillion to 16 trillion dollars over the last 4 years. The fact that 1/2 of college grads cannot find jobs. Unemployment rate very high - gas prices have doubled - The deficit has double under Obama. You can go on and on about Obama's failed 4 years. Romney nailed him on this and it's all factually true. Obama was speechless when it came to these facts. The main stream media has ignored these facts long enough. The Obama administration has failed the American people these last 4 years. Imagine adding 6 trillion dollars in new debt these last 4 years and the unemployment rate is still very high. And it's actually higher than what is stated. We all know it.

It's sad, because the economy was in absolutely fantastic shape when Obama came into office. We weren't involved in any wars with funding made via emergency appropriations to keep them out of the budget, gasoline prices had never been above two dollars a gallon, and the financial industry was in fine condition.

I have a little informal poll going on on my YouTube page. It has two skits of a feuding Romney and Obama. According to that, Obama is winning 69,644 to Romney's 74. It is mostly a New Jersey audience though. So it could be skewed. See them at:

JD - I'm a banker. It's what I do. We had just run off the cliff in September of 2007 when Ben B jumped the wrong way at the penalty shot (adjusting rates downward to keep the heat on in the real estate market) - the history of this is tracked in the failures of the banks listed on ml-implode.com (I was and am one of the moderators on the "market insider" portion of that web-site, where information is shared by mortgage professionals to insure we're at our most competitive, and further to insure that, when we place a loan with an investor, it will close, and in a timely manner). The crash began then, but it takes many months for it to reach the rest of the economy, as the numbers the public sees are already "baked in the cake". BB's "blink" inspired a loss in faith in our markets, and created a self-fulfilling prophecy. We weren't living with the trend, or even riding it....We WERE the trend. It's certainly easy to identify what went wrong today - but only a very few of us were expressing our disbelief at that now evidently bone-headed move. That was when I was first asked by my peers from all over the Nation to enter politics. What Aaron and others have endured for being outspoken in that industry is only a small taste of what detractors of an administration suffer elsewhere in the world, but it all but broke many of us.

Don't misunderstand me - "running into the burning building with a gas can" by the next administration didn't help matters.

Had Bernanke and pals instead done what we had suggested for months, IN WRITING - raised rates slightly - tightened our belts, and supported a market at 6-8% (at that time) - BECAUSE, if you were to chart when our growth was best, those were the numbers, and for the simplest of reasons....folks could garner enough of a return to leave their money in the market, to save, rather than to spend, capitalizing on good returns.

Removing the mortgage interest deduction would be slashing the throat of the real estate market, already crippled by the so-called 'market correction' - (read "mark to market") in real estate values.

I was at a TWP meeting in the district, and later messaged the mayor - "JFK said that a rising tide lifts all ships - it appears a receding market strands all townships". Folks are appealing their taxes, and they should...but, understand, the townships have obligations to meet, and budgets to honor...a drop in incoming tax dollars from appeals by a few will eventually result in a slow, steady rise in the mil rate - as it must, to accomodate the new shortfall.

Best would be a true and FULL re-evaluation - but the problem with that is finding a true disinterested party to complete such an evaluation - these sorts of projects are typically rife with graft. That "miss" in 2007 is going to continue to cost us for some time to come.

"I believe Governor Romney is a good man. Loves his family, cares about his faith. But I also believe that when he said behind closed doors that 47 percent of the country considered themselves victims who refuse personal responsibility, think about who he was talking about.

Folks on Social Security who've worked all their lives. Veterans who've sacrificed for this country. Students who are out there trying to hopefully advance their own dreams, but also this country's dreams. Soldiers who are overseas fighting for us right now. People who are working hard every day, paying payroll tax, gas taxes, but don't make enough income.

And I want to fight for them. That's what I've been doing for the last four years. Because if they succeed, I believe the country succeeds.

When my grandfather fought in World War II and he came back and he got a G.I. Bill and that allowed him to go to college, that wasn't a handout. That was something that advanced the entire country. And I want to make sure that the next generation has those same opportunities. That's why I'm asking for your vote and that's why I'm asking for another four years."

I hope your right Don. We absolutely cannot afford 4 more years of Obama. His stimulus was a disaster, riddled with failing green energy companies, and no shovel ready projects. We spent $246,436 per job it created and many of those are already gone. His answer to the still failing economy is to do it again! Why? Maybe he is getting kickbacks. He tells such tall tales it would be within his character. We in NJ know Corzine is nothing more than a thief, a thief who is a bundler for Obama and faced no charges after stealing billions in the MF Global case and Eric Holder is not prosecuting him? The Obama Administration has been a sham on every issue.

I also detest liars. Such as those that say Obama is Muslim, or not born in the USA, or the slew of other slurs that so many of you throw out regularly and repeatedly.

The difference between me and Mitt is that I understand my civic duty. I understand what REALLY makes America great. It is all the teachers, and police, and fire fighters, and soldiers, and highways, and bridges, and social security, and medicare, and healthcare etc. etc. etc.

I have worked ALL over the world... I have been to countries with the "low taxes" you espouse... With low taxes, comes low services. Crappy roads, bad wiring, food, water (no inspectors) and high crime, graft, and drug lords (few police) and only the rich get educated... And no way out of poverty if you get there.

The wealth flows to the top, and there is ZERO middle class, while the population lives in squalor... it isn't speculation. Look at Mexico..

Low taxes, and Millions in shacks. Drug lords in control, but HEY...people are FREE!!! And MANY of the richest people in the world live there, including the richest man alive (Carlos Slim) Unfortunately, you need a compound, and guards to be safe, and you must clean your own water, and in places like Mexico city, you need an armored car to get to work...

Obama is the original "flim flam" man. He's like a bad comic workig the room. How he has the "stones" to even try and take credit for increased gas and oil production is a joke!!! His administration has done every they can to hurt the Oil and Gas industry. Also, what kind of leader 4 years later constantly blames the problems n the prior administration. I'm a big sports fan so I'll use an analogy; does anyone think an NFL coach could have a last place team for 4 consecutive years, and keep his job by blaming the teams woes on the prior coach. Please let's send him to "the showers"

If all you are worried about is the price of gas, buy a hybrid! Such a lame and unimportant argument. NJ still has the cheapest gas in the nation with full service. The president has much more important things to do than to subsidize the cost of gasoline. Try living outside of the states for awhile and you will appreciate $4 for a gallon of gas.

Again Marc, educate yourself. Hybrid cars need electricity. In order to produce electricity, you need coal to burn. Steam coal, also known as thermal coal, is used in power stations to generate electricity. And where coal comes from? I think that's you job now to find out so you can educate yourself.

Lhen

You are the one that needs an education...

Obviously you have never seen a hybrid... Most don't plug in... They generate electricity from gas... and regenerate it from the brakes.... The volt also runs on gas as well as batteries... and it gets twice the gas mileage, so what ever the gas price, your cost is half as much to run it.... And when plugged in, electricity can come from Wind and Solar (which are sustainable forever and don't cook the place we live) .... and yes... I have one... and yes... my community now gets over 30% of our power from Solar and Wind... And that number is rising...

Talk about a Chevy Dolt!!!

Apparently the country was watching a different debate... From Poll of Polls....

The two largest polls gave Mr. Obama a clear advantage. A Battleground poll of likely voters in swing states who watched the debate had him winning 53-38.

"An online poll by Google Consumer Surveys gave Mr. Obama a 48 percent to 31 percent edge among registered voters.

"There were also two scientific surveys about the debate conducted among voters in particular states.

"A Public Policy Polling survey of Colorado voters who watched the debate found 48 percent declaring Mr. Obama the winner, and 44 percent for Mr. Romney. Mr. Obama's advantage was clearer in the poll among independent voters, who gave him a 58-36 edge."

No.. he didn't say that (but nice try) He said that is what will happen if Romney is elected. And I agree.
The policies of George Bush got us here. he had 8 years with 6 years in control of the house AND senate. Resulting in THIS.
http://currentmatters.markorton.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/5-10-11bud-f1.jpg
Which resulted in the second largest financial crash in history. Now... the last time that happened (the depression) it took 16 years (and a world war) to come out of it.
This time (like Hoover) the republicans have vowed to do (and are doing) everything they can to stop us from coming out of it:

resulting in this...
http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/washington/story/2012-08-14/unproductive-congress-not-passing-bills/57060096/1
EXACTLY when we needed them most....
Meanwhile Obama has step by step pushed for stimulus, and jobs bills, and saved the auto industry, and small manufacturers, etc. etc. and got THIS done...
http://thepoliticalcarnival.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/bikini-graph-January-2012.jpg
While also investing in our FUTURE!!! He also mandated that the mileage standards go up. THAT means cost goes down, because while gas will go UP... Twice the mileage, and your costs are 1/2...
Gas production in the US being UP... And oil drilling in the US being UP... And Gas drilling being UP.. and Exploration UP...

Obama isn't perfect. He is MUCH better for the country (American people) than Romney. I have been around a LONG time, and have a good memory. I remember George Bush running on "balanced budget" not on "privatizing Social Security" When he had every chanced (all he had to do was stay the course) to balance the budget, he grew it!! And he then went after Social Security (first raiding the funds, and then trying to cover his tracks by privatizing it). He started the most stupid war ever as "stimulus" then blamed the cost on Obama....

Earl - I could be wrong, but George Bush isn't running for President in a few weeks. Obama was elected nearly 4 years ago and made a whole host of promises to the American people. He delivered on none of them and in fact, his actions (or lack thereof) increased unemployment, ballooned the debt and left our nation in a precarious international position. He either knowingly made empty promises of "hope and change" or he was in way over his head in his ability to achieve those goals. My gut tells me it was likely a bit of both. I believe he does not have the requisite experience to deal with the issues facing our country. Either way and by every measure, his presidency has been an utter failure. I've got kids and I am extremely concerned for their futures. President Obama has made those futures bleaker while in office. I will not risk another 4 years of national decline by supporting him.

I hope they don't use the town hall forum again. It appeared to be a stacked deck and room against SEN Romney in that the commentator got choose the questions. There wasn't a question regarding the President's policies regarding Israel and his refusal to set foot on Israeli soil in 4 years. The commentator should not have interrupted Sen. Romney while he was challenging the President's reaction to Libya. There needed to be follow-on questions which he was not given the opportunity to ask. The president did not directly state that the Libyan incident was an act of terror, nor did he not state that it was. Part of his verbatim remarks were: "No acts of terror will ever shake the resolve of this great nation, alter that character or eclipse the light of the values that we stand for. Today we mourn for more Americans who represent the very best of the United States of America. We will not waver in our commitment to see that justice is done for this terrible act. And make no mistake, justice will be done." The real question is why did it take two weeks for the administration to admit that it was a terrorist attack marking the anniversary of 9/11? If he, in fact, knew it was a terrorist attack, what took them so long to act?

That's not what I believe. I believe that the free enterprise system is the greatest engine of prosperity the world's ever known.

I believe in self-reliance and individual initiative and risk takers being rewarded. But I also believe that everybody should have a fair shot and everybody should do their fair share and everybody should play by the same rules, because that's how our economy's grown. Folks need to get real. It was not a landslide for either side as the first debate was for Romney, but Obama most surely landed more body blows, and made Romney look defensive on a number of subjects. Though Romney seemed a bit more exasperated at Crowley, both men got a bit too fiesty at times and that made for several cringe worthy moments, but the format certainly made it very entertaining.

The highlight was the exchange over the Libya attack, and Romney's parsing of Obama's use of the word "terror" in his speech. Romney was sure he had a gotcha moment, but as it unfolded it made it seem like the whole thing was really about trying to score political points, rather than honestly addressing the issue. Romney's hedging on equal pay and immigration further feeds the notion that his positions on these and other subjects are inconsistent and evolving. He also should have stayed away from the 47% issue, as he gave Obama an opening to hit him hard on the subject without rebuttal.

Should be a horse race to the finish, and it's gonna be close.

The shame of it is, you don't get to see "real" candidates anymore. They are all so over-coached and created by their media consultants that we see an air-brushed, photo-shopped candidate.

I would imagine most of us watch the news on TV and read newspapers as well as what is provided by the Internet.

What I heard for about 10 days after the 9-11-12 attack was how it was sparked by an online clip. A mob reaction gone wild.

How can anyone now claim that they called it a terror attack after saying it was a spontanious mob reaction for at least ten days?

It was right out there for us to see last night. How can we ignore it?

The president of the USA lied, live on tv last night. Well ok....lets just say he "spun" his answer to tell something that was not truthful. We all saw it and I would think most of us got that original story fed to us about the Internet clip causing the event that killed the Americans. See...right there for all to see. So why ignore it?

Marynary, I'm not understanding your point and I don't think your comments are accurate. It would seem that the protesters and mobs that were incited by the video gave a organized group of terrorist an opportunity to execute a plan they had at the ready. It was not apparent at first that it was an organized attack, and at that point it would have been irresponsible to characterize it as a "terrorist attack" until there was solid information to confirm that.

I think you need some context that you're not getting from your choice of news sources.

I would like to remind those that are criticizing the President for not saying who the terrorists were in his first speech after the attack, look at George Bush's fist speech after 9-11. There is no mention of AL Qeda or Bin Laden even though he received the memo " Bin Laden Determined to Attack Within the United States" a month before. Democrats all stood behind our President then. Why aren't you standing behind out President now?

Here are the questions that will get you the answer:

Have Republicans ever ran on getting rid of or "privatize" Medicare and Social Security? No...

Have Republicans ever tried to get rid of or "privatize" medicare and Social Security? Yes... Every time they thought they could get away with it... Including the last republican president (George Bush) who tried both. he didn't get far on medicare, but had a shot with Social Security.

If Mitt Romney is elected... We will have a republican held house of representatives, and split senate, and a republican president. All they will need is to buy just a few a few (blue dog) votes... and you Social Security and Medicare are gone. if elected, Romney would likely do that before the mid term elections, as they wouldn't want to take the chance of a "lash back" and the possibility of losing the house....

I am not being a scare monger... Those things are just what is very likely to happen.... Mark my words....

Julie, historically Democrats have increased or enhanced Medicare, Medicaid and other public health related programs, while Republicans want to cut them or do away with them completely. That falls true for SS as well. If you believe that Obama is cutting any of those programs then you have bought into the propaganda.

If you are on any sort of Government related program (like my mom and mother in law with their SS) and you don't want to see your benefits cut you've got to vote for your best interests, and that would not be for Romney.

I believe that Obama had the upper hand. Too much bickering/insults in these posts. Both candidates are flawed; however, a few tidbits on Romney:

Romney acquired his wealth by buying companies, firing American workers, and transferring jobs to India & China, way, way, before it became fashionable to do so. He should be the last one to talk about bringing jobs back to America.

Romney's borrowing of money to start Bain Capital came from blood money...contra rebels in San Salvador...

Romney used fees (increase in various fees) to close $3 Million budget gap as Massachusetts Governor; thereby, claiming that as Governor he never raised taxes...yet he never announced that he raised fees.

Don't take my word on any of this. Do the research. Google it.

What middle class family has a $200,000.00 horse used as an aid for physical therapy for Ann Romney's MS? And he claims, that he knows the struggles of the working poor and middle class? Romney meant every word of the 47% entitlement comment he made to the millionaire donors...he was insulting, derogatory, demoralizing, and had a complete lack of empathy for the average American which he equated as a "freeloader." Our elderly, our veterans, the working poor, the unemployed. If he really did not mean that the 47% were freeloaders, why did he not say that he was going to do everything in his power to assist them? He did not! The proof is in the pudding. There is absolutely no gray area with that comment, no justifcation, no debate.

What does the cost of a horse have to do with anything? The most expensive horse ever sold was around 15 million. Horses are expensive. Why is it liberals always care how people spend their own money? Put up the money Romney has donated to charity against Obama and Biden together.
As for physical therapy, here in Atlantic County, a big story was the possible closing of an equestrian center that hosted a therapy program for kids with autism, cerebral palsy, MS, downs syndrome. I dont know why equestrian therapy works but it does, at least according to the people who dont want to see the center close, and if the Romneys can afford it, so what? The Obamas are also very rich - does that mean they dont understand the middle class or the poor? Do you think poor people want to stay poor and never hope to get richer?
Romney's 47% comment has been so distorted by this time there is no point trying to argue it with someone so obviously determined to vote for Obama.

Stewart - Today's Gallup Poll has Romney up 50% to Obama's 46%. Real Clear Politics, which averages all polls, has voters indicating the nation is on the wrong track by 55%. That number, I think, says much more about how votes will trend on Election Day than anything else. Ironically, 71% of Americans, according to Rasmussen, believe voters should be required to present photo IDs at their polling places. I don't believe that Romney did anything to lose a single vote in the debate. I think that Obama has set himself up for some tough questions in the upcoming debate on foreign policy - particularly since Candy Crowley has backtracked on her statement concerning Libya. It'll be fun to watch, but I think that there are far fewer "undecideds" at this point than one would be led to think.

It's up to you to do your own research to counter his/her argument. I check back later to see if you've done any.

From what I know of the subject, the Romney campaign has given as little detail as they can about his tax plan, and even those on the right that support it have had to fill in the blanks for themselves when trying to explain how it will work. "Trust us" is not the basis for economic policy, and the way Romney changes positions I challenge even his supporters to know what he will do if he gets into office.

What's Obama's plan for the next four years? Has he announced it yet? More debt and blaming the previous administration? Also, what did he mean in Russia when he said he's have "more lattitude when he was reelected?"
Why can't he ever seemingly answer the question he's asked? Was it that he got used to media bias towards him? Did you know that Romney was correct in his numbers concerning oil production on public land? Obama's answer was false. Yea, if anyone should be suspect here, it is our President.

Proving Biden Lost Debate
All we heard after the vice presidential debate last Thursday night was how much good the cackling, slightly unbalanced Joe Biden had done for an Obama campaign that had been rocked by Mitt Romney's overwhelming performance in the first presidential debate. Well, now we know that just isn't the case. Since the debate, Gallup shows Romney moving from a two-point lead to a six-point lead. Today, Romney beats the president 51-45%. Let me ask everyone in the 50-54 yr age range making about $50-60K. Are you ready to be Romney's guinea pigs in the Republican new world order of no more Medicare or Social Security? How much money do you have saved up to supplement those vouchers you'll be given? Look at your parents. Do you want to be 90 years old and shopping for a better deal on your surgery? Are you ready to lose everything you've already put into the social contract so the wealthy get more tax breaks? Will you be able to make all that up in savings in the next 10-15 years? Good luck if you think you will under a Mitt Romney presidency. His entire career has been sacrificing people like you to enrich people like him. The attitude he presented at the debate was that of an arrogant plutocrat unwilling to play by the rules or listen to anyone else. He was dismissive and disrespectful. That may be a good trait for a CEO but not the leader of a country.

Joey, how did you like paying $4 per gallon in the summer of 2008 when Bush the oil guy was president?

You can drill all you want in the USA, but unless you nationalize the oil industry you cannot keep that oil in the USA. It goes to who wants to pay the most. That was the problem of the pipeline. It would have come through our country and right out of it to the highest buyer.

Romney's great world tour ( raising money for himself from foreigners BTW) was a big flop. His arrogance insulted even our closest allies. His demeanor is not to work with others no matter what his lips say.

And Joey, as you learned from Ms Crowley, the President did call it terrorism. Be happy Obama put us in a position where Big Bird can be the biggest enemy of the Republicans.

Before Monsanto became the agricultural giant it is today, the company’s major product used to be PCBs, which it routinely dumped in rivers and open pits while deliberately attempting to hide the damage. The company managed to survive the many lawsuits from poisoned communities and distance itself from its toxic past — largely thanks to the help of Mitt Romney.

Obama's a proven failure, as anyone knows based on the cold hard facts. But so is Romney. Read it and weep: 34% job approval, increasing debt, spending & taxes, 47th in the nation in job creation, and of course the law that forces you to list proof of health insurance on your state income tax form, and fines if you don't have it. That's all bad enough, but this clown wants to expand our overseas military presence, keep the war on drugs going, allow the Federal Reserve to operate as it always has, and maintain the unfair tax code that we have. It should come as no surprise that we will continue to move in the wrong direction if Mittens should become our President. Obama had a slam dunk. If you didn't know that last night, you know today because of all the whining and squealing going on. I know I'm going to remember Romney's inability to stick to time limits, and his rudeness to the moderator, the President, and the crowd. He acted like an arrogant CEO who doesn't need to listen to anybody. I'm going to remember his belief that he understands women because he let female employees leave on time to go cook dinner. I'm going to remember his lie that he initiated a search for qualified female candidates in Massachusetts for his cabinet, when in reality a bipartisan women's group had prepared a list of qualified candidates for whomever won the Governorship. And Romney just appointed women to those positions he cared about the least. He flat out lied about his "binders full of women." His bizarre fixation with the evolving situation in Libya just gets worse every time he opens his mouth. Any reasonable American can accept that intelligence evolves, and the President and State Department may have more reasons to say what they say than they can share with the public. Murders aren't solved overnight, especially when they occur across the globe in nations full of terrorists. By the end of the evening, Romney was just wandering around repeating his old talking points ... it was sad, really.

If Obama really did say on 9/12 that the incident in Libya was an act of terror [which he didn't] then why did his U.N. It was fact checked. I'll just call you simple The above was only one of many articles I could have used.

Since violence broke out across the region, Republicans have charged that Obama’s “defeatist” policies have caused the unrest and contributed to the death of Libyan ambassador Christopher Stevens. But pressed to detail where Obama has apologized for America by CNN host Soledad O’Brien, King came up short:

O’BRIEN: Never once in that speech, as you know, which I have the speech right here. that was — he never once used the word “apology.” He never once said “I’m sorry.”

And now you weigh in with this gem: "Obama had 12 years experience. He was a Ill. State senator for most of that time. Either you knew that and are trying to mislead us like Obama or you are uninformed yourself"

Obama was a state senator for 3 terms. He then became a US senator for two terms, and then president. of the unites states, where he won a Nobel peace prize.

That is of course after being a constitutional law professor, attorney, and Magna cum Laude graduate of Harvard, having prior served as president of the law review there.....

...and Washington DC is all about political power. . .and Romney doesn't have much of it. Also, depending on the outcome of Congressional races and the fiefdoms they spawn...could give Romney even more grid lock...trying to run the Government. . . or do you think it's all about same party labels down in the District of Corruption?

Romney got this election in his pocket, attack attack attack. I do not want to see this country run by liberals, I have suffered a tremendous loss in bonuses the last 3 years.
Obama is trying to get women's votes, but Republican women know better, they leave it up to men to make the decisions, and that is why men have the high level jobs, so that they can go home and raise the kid, help them with homework, get dinner and other household matters taken care of.
Who cares what the world thinks, how many people from all over the world still want to vacation here in the USA, try to leave here illegally, and watch our action movies? I said it all right there. If it wasn't for Big businesses there won't be any working class, and what the liberals are doing is make the Big businesses turn into small businesses, because they won't be making the big money any more.

This country has to become Republican, this is the only party that will make this country a success especially for Corporations. Republicans have to take control and continue to attack the fail efforts of the Liberals, I want to see a map of only red states, and I like what I am seeing now when I turn on FOX, it is the only station I watch and I a proud supporter to my party, for every mistake we made, the Liberals errors were a lot worse.

This is how Big businesses become successful, watch how Politicians answer and handle questions, this is how you become rich EVERYTIME. I have done it for years, so did my parents and grandparents and it works everytime.

We do not know what will happen tomorrow, so why be concerned what Romney's plans are when he is in office? Sorry, Joe, then you are in the same boat I am in. I am frustrated with $15,000 year bonuses the taxes on it is horrendous. If anything I see us as the working class, if Liberals continue to run the country, I hate to say it but talking about it now I can see what it is like to be working class. I would like to make Romney money. I like the high quality of life, and I have a lot to worry about if Liberals continue to be in Congress.

If you ask me we should do away with American cars. I do not drive American cars, they are inferior, the billions they were given to survive and they still cannot run as good as foreign cars. I love and own several swedish and german cars ;-)

I'm sorry, but I just have to laugh at "the taxes on it is horrendous". Our Federal tax burdens have been going down, not up, for decades. During the past few years we've even had large (albeit temporary) cuts in payroll taxes as well. Just what in the heck are you whining about?

American cars are like liberals, no quality or longevity there... that is why we should all get with the Republican party. No offense to the unions, but are they Republicans? I am just saying.
Here in America, Bloomberg, Romney money should be the middle class. To not see this is saying you are disillusioned, you are out of touch, and loss hope on where you should be in life.

I tip people who work in Target, hotels, restaurants who are Republicans generously, but I remind them they can do better and remaining where they are for another year is just as bad as being a liberal.

You talk about caring for the people, what really has Obama done for the American people? Nothing and what does the community service organizer Obama know about political budgets? Nothing, seriously the only "change" he gave the American people and American history, was himself, the first President who is half black which was the ticket along with "change" that he ran on. I think that was great for our country but he had 4 years to do something beneficial and he hasn't, it is time to leave.

If they tie a location (ie, the move must be domestic) to the tax write off that allows these corporation to deduct moving their jobs/infrastructure overseas, then it might stop the flow of movement. I doubt it though- these companies are saving millions going overseas, the tax writeoff is icing on an already delicious cake.

Exxon, big coal and the like own much of the energy of this world's natural resources. We've put all our eggs into the baskets of the few and they aren't for good of mankind or any of you. They are for the good of them, the few. And we are all gonna find out, again the hard way, the dangers and disasters of this pyramid scheme. When this scheme collapses again world wide and they start ww3 to kill all us losers off. Never again go back to this scheme. That is the new world order God has been giving us from the start of this so called "civilization". I hope the next generations of slaves remembers these lessons we keep forgetting. Bury the history of this collapse in time capsules and in caves so generations can dig them up and forget why they were buried in the first place. There are reasons why we went into the second largest crash in history JUST like the re are reasons we went into the depression. Please go read about the depression and what led up to it. The same basic reasons are why we went into this one. Totally free markets succumb to greed without control, and swing wildly, but when they go to low, they effect the real world, and don't come back quickly.

They got rid of to many regulations (that had been around since the late 1930's) and (Along with Wall St. greed) it resulted in the great recession.

Getting rid of the regulations, (glass steagal) that then allowed credit default swaps, elimination of the uptick rule, creation of bad loans, highly leveraged banks, etc. etc. caused this, and the remedy is to put the regulations back in place...

The republicans fought regulations back to the 30's and have "deregulated" every single chance they had. They are still fighting putting regulations back. ANY regulations!!!! Their mantra (again) has been that the free market is perfect and knows all. The fact is, that it doesn't and swings wildly on it's own, and it hurts people.

Alan Greenspan (former fed chair) who was presiding while the crash happened, famously admitted that he had thought free markets regulated themslves, and was terribly wrong...

This makes the republicans completely complicit in the ability of the crooks to be crooks... and in the destruction of Trillions of Americans dollars

Pollsters have pulled out of some battleground states because there is no way Obama can win them. Obama resisted doing the same because if he did then that would be news. But now things are so bad he is pulling out of some states and concentrating on a few must win states. Obama can't run on his record and he can't go negative on Romney. The only thing left is wild ideas and wild stories. But that just offends the few who are undecided. They aren't that stupid. If you really are a Romney guy you would have invested this much time and effort a long time ago when things were tight. But go ahead. Keep it up. Nobody believes your character from SNL. Regardless of who you think won the debate, the difference I saw between the two is that Romney discussed what he hoped to do to change the direction of the failing economy, Obama discussed HIS interpretation of Romney's plan. Obama is a disappointment...he refuses to discuss his birthplace, his college attendance, his wife's loss of her law liscence, where his 11million is from since he hasn't held a paying job for many years...and what he will do to move us Forward since Change didn't work!

Frankly, Romney's wealth doesn't bother mr, he earned it with a business he built. He wasn't a neighborhood organizer, he didn't forge his transcripts, and we know where he was born.

I think Romney won this debate, or at the worse tied it. (which still puts him ahead!)

Chances of that are slim...it's not impossible, but there's something afoot that may make that margin of possibility significantly thinner. Suffice it to say that the D's AND the R's have been "bending" the rules on Ballot position and major party status, and they got their hands caught in the cookie jar...but the D's will skate, because of the loyalty to Bill Pascrell in his district. (They garnered enough votes to squeak by the audit) R's are significantly short on the tally of VOTES necessary - not "lever pulls" - VOTES - in the primary to retain major party status, which directly affects their right to (unconstitutional) placement on the left side of the ballot - the challenge you never heard of is in the Federal Third District Court of Appeals as of this afternoon. They know, and are keeping quiet, before the Dems figure it out. When the final version of the appeal requiring "strict scrutiny" appears, I will post the link and a "letter to the editor". I am neither a D nor an R - and what they've been doing (not the candidates - the party bosses) should offend even the staunchest party hack. "Facts are stubborn things" - John Adams.

His specialty was to borrow money, buy companies, sell off their assets, ship the jobs to China, saddle them with debt, and then sell them again, keeping.the asset sale money...Many of those companies didnt survive their time with Mitt as he stripped them, but he still made money, so considered them a success...

Romney's message is not: "I am not Obama." That's Obama's message: "Vote for me becasue I am not Romney" and you see how THAT's working. He is tanking and will be unemployed on Jan 21.

BTW, you sure do make your point by including links to the Huffington Post and the NY Times. That SURELY PROVES your points!! Sarcasm much??

Romney has slashed Obama's lead since Oct 8 in NJ. His lead was 15.8% and not it's down to 8.3%

How anyone can claim Obama or Biden won any debate is laughable. The first time that either of them has to answer any substantive question, neither of them can do it.

The party is over.

One of the polls that said Obama won the last debate went a little deeper. The pollsters asked the same people "who can do a better job with the economy, jobs and the debt". Three separate questions. In each Romney had a substantially higher grade than Obama. So I guess more like Obama as a reality TV star but when when it comes to dealing with our lives and our futures they realize this ain't no TV show.

Yeah, and up over 11% since the same time last year all thanks to Obama if you really are dumb enough to believe he is responsible for gas prices. In fact, if you believe the guy is responsible for gas prices then he would also be responsible for about a 100% increase in gas prices since his inauguration.

But let me guess, you don't think he is responsible for those large increases b/c they aren't politically convenient for you. Only that couple penny drop over the last week works into your political agenda so that is all you want Obama to take credit for.

You don't get it. I am not blaming the guy for high prices or giving him credit for lower prices. YOU ARE. I was just pointing out how stupid and uninformed your comment was given how gas prices have moved over Obama's term. And if you are going to blame Bush for that spike in prices you mentioned, keep in mind prices dropped like a rock after the spike so make sure you aren't a complete hypocrite and you give him credit for that drop. And keep in mind that prices since Obama took over have been on pretty much a consistent increase over his entire term. Now feel free to go back to your uninformed factually incorrect nonsense.

Now if we take your words, what else have been happening at those exact same time? The economy began to tank at the end of Bush's term and bottomed at the start of Obama's. Since then we have been making a slow and steady climb in the health of our economy. You think that may have an impact on gas prices?

However, it has been the consensus of the ill informed Right that Obama has been the blame for the price of gas ( highest prices ever!..which isn't even true). To be Fair and Balanced one MUST give him credit for the fall. Just trying to play by the rules you all set here.

There has been no fall in gas prices. Prices constantly adjust by a couple percentage points from year to year. One week does not a trend make and if you are going to pretend a .72% decline is a big victory for the big 0, then stop being a hypocrite and accept blame for the big 0 for the 2x increase over his tenure. Wake me when we see a couple months or so of declining gas prices and prices are down well into the double digit range and then you can pretend Obama actually did something. Just make sure you tell me what he did to lead to that decline b/c so far all I see is bloviating by the man and his supporters when they start calling a .72% decrease in prices on the back of a near 100% increase to be something worth taking credit for..

so which is it, does the POTUS/US gov't control gas prices or not?

if you really want lower gas prices, this country needs another refinery (or 2) we have plenty of oil coming into the states but only 2 refineries. more refineries = more gas production, more gas production means better availability and lower prices.

CD - I'm diligently reviewing energy jobs in NJ, looking for areas in which we can improve, specifically in my District. There are seven refineries independently operating in NJ alone, although two are on adjoining properties in Paulsboro. (Different owners). Not starting an argument, just relating facts.

This IS important in other places in the world, however. Specifically, Iran has 9 operating refineries - I only bring this up because a certain pundit has often espoused that they only have one, and that it would be an easy "target". Posturing by a chickenhawk, and ill-advised posturing, at that.

There may be many refineries but not all are used for producing gasoline, other petroleum products have the need to be refined before they are suitable for use.

I felt you deserved a more detailed answer, so I pulled out my notes, so that I could confirm SPECIFICALLY gasoline refining occuring today. One plant was shuttered to Gasoline refining due to an environmental issue, but the property is still in use for other chemical manufacturing from fossil fuels - another has transitioned only to xylene, toluene, and other volatiles. Of the remaining five, another is presently not operating - financial issues. Three are producing automotive fuel as their primary product, and the last produces it as a by product of asphalt manufacturing.

That is of course unless you are saying you speak for the entire country, and based on your ranting, I can say for a fact that isn't true...

So where are those links again? You know, backing all the garbage you spewed? Yahh.. I thought so...

Here is a link for you... It is an article by David Stockman (Ronald Reagan's Budget Director) and fellow republican regarding Mr. Romney's business experience.

http://www.thedailybeast.com/newsweek/2012/10/14/david-stockman-mitt-romney-and-the-bain-drain.html

And here is another recent article about fellow republican Walter De Vries (long time aide to George Romney, Mitt's father) and his views on the same subject....

Being realistic and acknowledging mistakes and injustices is being adult. I don't hate the US. I hate what governments have embroiled us in. You ever see that meme that says that our 9/11 is their 24/7? I am tired of the controlling body manipulating us by blaming everything on 9/11. It happened. It sucked. I lost friends, I felt afraid. I am tired of the over-simplistic "isolationist" argument. Whenever someone suggests that we stop our meddling overseas, the popular response is "well, what about Hitler?" There is obviously room for humanitarian intervention, which GJ fully supports. It is a far cry from inserting our own puppet governments in other countries to serve our "needs" which ultimately has unavoidable backlash. The repercussions, are they worth it? We were a non-interventionist country prior to the World Wars. I don't see why we can't be again. Switzerland, as small as they are, gets along just dandy.

But we have them here, too. I will not support our (lack of) foreign policy. And btw, it is glaringly obvious that any and all of our efforts in that region are NOT humanitarian in the least. That's funny. I have spent the last 20 years traveling the world for business (200K miles a year) and I see NOTHING of what you see.

There are countries like Iran an North Korea (that we neuter with sanctions) that are dangerous and crazy, and factions like that hasn't changed and it won't. Most of the world reveres and respects us, and this is one of our greatest assets. They see us as a force of good and a benevolent upholder of peace.

The damage done to the USA around the world by George Bush is truly astounding. Our enemies were delighted that we were caught on the wrong side of the truth, and delighted in ity. Our allies were shocked at what were doing, even as they went along (based on our many years of being right previously). We wasted decades of carefully built capital around the world, all for the most idiotic war on record...

If you think we can control the world by running around the world starting wars and causing insurgencies, you are delusional and have never read anything on the fall of Rome. If you think dominating people is a way toward getting their respect then you are a simpleton, and know nothing of human nature.

There is a GIANT difference between protecting our our country, and making things up to start "preemptive" wars over corporate interests. The Iraq war was the latter, with ZERO remaining rationale other than sheer stupidity.

And yes, given the entirety of your comments, I do think you are a Xenophobe.

Granted, people do horrendous things in the name of God every single day, bible thumping Christians and Muslims alike. I don't support it or rationalize it away. What has he done? INCREASED THE DEBT ON OUR CHILDREN

OBAMA - WHY DO YOU LIE SO MUCH?

You seem to have the makings of a libertarian. How come you haven't abandoned this unbwarranted support of Obama? How do you reconcile your opinion of our foreign policy with your current political affiliation and the war-mongering that has continued and escalated over the past 4 years? Just curious...

I am pretty fond of the truth, so that puts Romney out of the running....

I am also a pragmatist, so 3rd party candidates at this stage are a wasted vote.

Being a pragmatist, I am also not a Libertarian. I do believe in individual liberty, entrepreneurship, and some libertarian concepts, but am not tied by the dogma. The fact is that some things work better when done as a group. This includes many things like Interstate highways, Military, and yes healthcare...

It is currently in fashion for certain people to call this all kinds of nonsense (and sometimes mutually exclusive) names like Fascist, Socialist, Marxist, Communist, etc... but I can assure you they aren't... People in the US are just brainwashed..

As and example, I give you Australia... Fiercely Independent, and one might even say "libertarian" right? Growing industry, Growing economy, and Rising Dollar.... They also have Universal Healthcare (that they call Medicare by the way), and Universal Retirement, and Zero Interest student loans....

Why?? Because they are SMART!! Tt is more efficient that way, and it is a strategic advantage! Healthy people work longer, elderly need to be taken care of, and educated people create industries and high paying jobs. They make investments to lift their country.... We are being short sighted and greedy...

I have seen plenty of the "low taxes" and "small government" places in the world, very close up. I know what happens. Mexico...

No thanks...

Mitt Romney criticized President Obama for a nearly identical green energy program Romney set up in his state. Three of the six companies the Massachusetts fund invested in are now defunct or struggling.

Mitt Romney's energy policy adviser works for a lobbying firm for a major coal company
Mitt Romney stalled and eventually withdrew from a multi-state "pollution pact" that would cap plants' carbon emissions.
Mitt Romney said the Clean Air Act doesn't apply to carbon emissions.

They both want to continue our economic collapse through the unconstitutional Federal Reserve system, which would piss you off if you knew how it really worked. Romney made millions off of aborted fetus disposal, so he is in no way "pro life'. Barry Soetoro (Obama) has had 39 social security numbers and his current SSN belongs to SOMEONE ELSE! You also accept Obamas commitment to maintain a presence in Afgihanstan until forever, and his drones and secret war in Yemen and limitless spending? Healthcare isn't going to matter when we fall into the dark ages. You said it yourself. Rome. In its endless quest to expand the empire, in all its greed and fatal optimism. Sacked. Destroyed. Perhaps you think it is a waste of time to vote third party, but its got to begin somewhere. ‘Too Many Mitts’ Utahs Largest Paper Endorses Obama;
Eric Kleefeld - 6:18 PM EDT, Friday October 19, 2012
The Salt Lake Tribune, the largest newspaper in Utah, on Friday endorsed President Obama for re-election rather than the first Mormon presidential nominee, Mitt Romney.

In an editorial entitled "Too Many Mitts," the paper castigated Romney for his frequent reinventions and changes of position:

From his embrace of the party’s radical right wing, to subsequent portrayals of himself as a moderate champion of the middle class, Romney has raised the most frequently asked question of the campaign: "Who is this guy, really, and what in the world does he truly believe?"

The evidence suggests no clear answer, or at least one that would survive Romney’s next speech or sound bite. Politicians routinely tailor their words to suit an audience. Romney, though, is shameless, lavishing vastly diverse audiences with words, any words, they would trade their votes to hear.

Anyway, Romney will win Utah's 6 electoral votes easily so the paper's endorsement is worthless.

9/12 - CLINTON - “We are working to determine the precise motivations and methods of those who carried out this assault. Some have sought to justify this vicious behavior, along with the protest that took place at our embassy in Cairo yesterday, as a response to inflammatory material posted on the Internet.

September 13
Press Secretary Jay Carney at a briefer in Golden, CO
“I think it’s important to note with regards to that protest that there are protests taking place in different countries across the world that are responding to the movie that has circulated on the Internet.”

“There is no justification at all for responding to this movie with violence.”

September 14
Jay Carney at a White House Press briefing
“We have no information to suggest that it was a preplanned attack. The unrest we’ve seen around the region has been in reaction to a video that Muslims, many Muslims find offensive. And while the violence is reprehensible and unjustified, it is not a reaction to the 9/11 anniversary that we know of, or to U.S. policy. … The unrest around the region has been in response to this video. We do not, at this moment, have information to suggest or to tell you that would indicate that any of this unrest was preplanned.”

IT WAS ALL FROM A VIDEO...NO PREPLANNED ATTACKS. NO INTELL

UNTIL THIS

September 19
Matthew Olsen, Director of the National Counterterrorism Center
“Certainly, on that particular question, I would say yes. They were killed in the course of a terrorist attack on our embassy.”

September 20
President Obama during a Univision Forum – Miami, Florida
“I don’t want to speak to something until we have all the information. What we do know is that the natural protests that arose because of the outrage over the video were used as an excuse by extremists to see if they can also directly harm U.S. interests.”

Jay Carney during a press gaggle en route Miami
“It is, I think, self-evident that what happened in Benghazi was a terrorist attack. Our embassy was attacked violently, and the result was four deaths of American officials. So, again, that’s self-evident.

I wish either candidate would address the global climate change issue, since that is truly a life-and-death concern for the future of our planet. Also, I would be heartened to see those who call Obama "arrogant" to impose the need for honesty on themselves: what they are really saying is that as a Black man, he does not know his place. Let's be open about it--many Obama detractors are upset about having a Black (not Muslim or Kenyan--both lies, by the way..) in office, but they are concerned about revealing themselves to be racists.

19) “He keeps saying, ‘Look, I’ve created 5 million jobs.’ That’s after losing 5 million jobs. The entire record is such that the unemployment has not been reduced in this country.” Job creation is net positive since Obama took office in the middle of the worst recession since the great depression. Economists estimate that up to 3 million jobs were created by the stimulus alone.

20) “The kids of those that came here illegally, those kids, I think, should have a pathway to become a permanent resident of the United States and military service, for instance, is one way they would have that kind of pathway to become a permanent resident.” But Romney has promised to end President Obama’s deferred action directive, which saves some young undocumented immigrants from deportation, though he would not take away visas from people who had already received them. He has also promised to veto the DREAM Act.

He had a Democrat House and Democrat Senate, supermajority in both houses.” Senate Republicans repeatedly prevented Obama’s immigration reform efforts. The GOP actually blocked the DREAM Act from securing 60 votes to pass cloture, denying hundreds of thousands of young undocumented immigrants a path to legal status if they enrolled in college or joined the military. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) even said on the Senate floor that young people lobbying his office had wasted their time.

22) “Any investments I have over the last eight years have been managed by a blind trust. And I understand they do include investments outside the United States, including in — in Chinese companies.” Romney’s blind trust is not very blind, and includes investments in a company owned by Romney’s son.
