“All Natural Healthy” Breakfast Cereal may not be all that “Natural”.

Kashi Cereal Stirs Anger - Exposed by Small Rhode Island Grocer

May 19 2012

This is a combination of an article from Dr. Mecola’s web site and my own research Joan L. McDaniel

I like my breakfast cereal once in a while.  I like enough not to give it up completely but I took a real battle to find something SAFE TO EAT.

“A simple sign on a grocery store shelf has gone viral, causing a storm of outrage among consumers who feel they've been misled by cereal maker” Dr. Mercola.

Kellogg's claims about its Kashi cereals. A Rhode Island grocer posted a note on the shelf where Kashi was supposed to be, saying he'd learned it wasn't 100 percent natural after all, and therefore wasn't carrying it anymore.

It turns out the soy in Kashi cereals comes from genetically modified (GMO) Roundup-ready soybeans, which have a gene inserted in them that allows the crop to withstand otherwise lethal doses of the weed killer.

USA Today reported that consumers felt duped into believing that Kashi was all-natural when it's noti. Their complaints were initially brushed off by Kashi general Manager David DeSouza, who told USA Today that since the FDA doesn't regulate the term "natural," the cereal maker has done nothing wrong by defining "natural" as minimally-processed with no artificial flavors, colors, preservatives or sweeteners.

Yeah try to avoid feeding GMO foods to my family....organic as much as possible. Wont even buy normal plant seeds for our garden because most of those are GO seeds so have to track down organic heirloom seeds for our tiny plot of land. Sadly the American consumer is done a disservice by their own government in not mandating GMO foods be labeled..I mean if they are so good for you why not let us know what products use GMO products??

I agree Karin Kiesow-Irvine and good for you.
The Demand for GMO Labeling will come up for a vote in California. There is, of course, big money behind the GMO's. We need to be aware of this issue and demand the products are labeled. The Organic label is suppose to be an indication the product is not GMO. But the use of that label is voluntary.
We need to boycott the manufactures who do not label their products. By the way most of the manufactures that use GMO's in their food are the big names like Kellogg’s, Coco Cola, Pepsi, and many others. Also buy from your local farmer where you can and go to the local Farmer;s Market if you have one.
