No one was hurt in the fire, but the inside of the house was badly damaged. Firefighters arrived just a minute after receiving reports of the fire, according to Fire Chief Anthony Verley. The cause remains under investigation.
The season's third major winter storm was less about traffic delays and spin-outs than snowball fights and sledding for many Teaneck residents. Patch photographer Christopher Costa was out capturing the lighter side of the Jan. 12. storm. This week's photo shows one local man getting a friendly snowball to the face.
The Teaneck High School Highwaywomen (5-0) remained perfect with a 56-46 win over visiting Ridgewood at Thursday night's game. Teaneck racked up 20 steals while mercilessly pounding the Ridgewood Maroons on their way to grabbing 30 offensive rebounds. Despite some early mishaps, Teaneck was able to capture their fifth straight win of the season.
A powerful blizzard dumped more than 20 inches of snow on Bergen County early this week. Teaneck was hit hard by the storm with roads shut down and many businesses forced to close. Police reported few major weather-related incidents, however, one man was rescued from his car when it struck a snow pile. The driver of an SUV had to be cut from the vehicle he was riding in when it flipped on its side after a two-car crash Friday at Sussex Road and West Englewood Avenue. Teaneck firefighters had to cut the man from the flipped over car while a female passenger was able to get out on her own, police said. The Teaneck Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported three people to area hospitals from the crash scene with minor injuries.
Power was knocked out to 5,000 people Wednesday after a fire at a PSE&G substation near the Richard Rodda Center. The Teaneck Fire Department was able to bring the flames under control during heavy rain and winds. Wednesday's storm moved through Bergen County, causing flooding and downing trees.
Residents, state and local officials gathered Thursday on the Municipal Green to honor the nation's veterans and members of the armed services who continue to serve.
