Songs, Stories of the Pine Barrens at Teaneck Library
New collection of stories inspired by South Jersey folklore
The following announcement was submitted by the Teaneck Public Library:
The Teaneck Library’s Isabelle and Sol Hermalyn lecture series will host author, storyteller and musician Paul Evans Pedersen Jr. on Friday, Oct. 25 at 10:30 a.m. for a program of songs and stories, based on the rich storytelling tradition of the Pine Barrens.
The Legendary Pine Barrens: New Tales From Old Haunts, is a new collection of dark and quirky short stories inspired by South Jersey folklore. The author introduces a rogue’s gallery of weird and colorful characters in tales that run the gamut from offbeat explanations of natural phenomena, to unconventional takes on popular legends, to strange doings in mysterious Piney towns and taverns. Pedersen puts his unique spin on such legendary local subjects as the immortal Jersey Devil, dancing bandit Joe Mulliner, and the mysterious Blue Hole of Winslow. With this literary feast, and his love for the Pine Barrens, Paul Evans Pedersen Jr. emerges as southern New Jersey's most exciting new storyteller in decades.
