Children’s Specialized Hospital is the first hospital in New Jersey to provide free developmental screenings in the community. Early identification of young children who have developmental delays is key to a timely delivery of intervention services. This screening is the first step in obtaining needed services for young children. Educational materials will be available for families as to what to expect from their children at different ages.
“Children’s Specialized Hospital is committed to early diagnosis of children who may have developmental issues,” said Jill Harris, PhD, director of program development, Children’s Specialized Hospital. “As part of that commitment, we are the only area hospital providing free community screenings to help identify young children who may have developmental delays requiring intervention to help them reach their full potential.
Each screening will include an interactive questionnaire and conversation between parent(s), child and Children's Specialized Hospital staff.
This year, Kohl’s Autism Awareness program will support the Children’s Specialized Hospital Autism Education program, as well as the developmental screenings. Past hospital initiatives supported through Kohl’s Cares include Children’s Specialized Hospital’s Friday Night Fever, Adaptive Aquatics, Lightning Wheels sports team, and the Walk n' Roll.
Since 2001, Kohl's Cares cause merchandise program has, through the sale of its $5 books and plush toys, raised more than $231 million for children's health and education initiatives nationwide.
