Two local celebrations are planned in the Teaneck-area this weekend starting Saturday with the Bergen County Juneteenth celebration.
The Juneteenth event in Overpeck County Park will feature entertainment, food, games, vendors, family reunions, music, historical and cultural displays, and a tour of the Historical Gethsemane Cemetery. The event is scheduled June 22 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., rain or shine.
Visitors will also be able to see the maquette of a life-sized bronze statue of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., set to be installed on the Hackensack River Pathway at Fairleigh Dickinson University's Hackensack campus.
On Sunday, Teaneck’s Puffin Cultural Forum will host the fifth annual Teaneck Latino Community Event, sponsored by "Resource, Education, and Awareness by Latinos" (R.E.A.L.).
“R.E.A.L.’s mission is to promote a positive awareness of the Latino community in Teaneck and to be a resource for Latinos and others through education, advocacy and participation in cultural/social community events,” a news release said. “The celebration’s highlights include poetry and Mexican folk music by Brooklyn based Jarana Beat! Sample diverse food from Colombia, Argentina, and El Salvador; participate in art activities, and much more.”
The event is scheduled for June 23 from 2 to 5 p.m. at 20 Puffin Way in Teaneck.
