Teaneck Terpsys to Attend Inauguration

Locals head to Washington for President Obama's second inauguration

The following was submitted by the Teaneck Terpsys:

On Sunday Cheryl Miller–Porter, founder of the Teaneck Terpsys, accompanied by several Terpsy alumnae and their children will travel to Washington, DC again to witness the inauguration of President Barack Obama’s second term. Four years ago, 11 staff members and their children made the trip to DC to witness history being made with the election of the first Black president. Cheryl Miller-Porter’s involvement with the Civil Rights movement at a young age propelled her to share a personal story of struggle for equality with all youth that she comes into contact. The Terpsy alumnae group will arrive in DC the day before the inauguration and prepare to set out in the cold on Monday for the public swearing in ceremony and the opportunity to hear the President give his inaugural address offering his vision for America and his goals for the nation.

This is a busy time for the Terpsys as they prepare for their annual performance.  As important as the show is to Miller-Porter, being a part of history again, is just as important.  “We have people in place to ensure the preparation of our performances as well as have the ability to take time out and support our President by being there in the masses with him.”

The show’s theme for 2013 is “A Celebration of Dance 1930 – Present” and the awaited local event will take place on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 8 p.m. and on Sunday, Feb. 19 at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the Teaneck High School Helen B. Hill auditorium.  Tickets will be available for purchase soon.  Please email tneckterpsys@teaneckterpsys.com for additional information.
