Teaneck Library to Host Newark Museum Speakers Bureau

"American Modern and Contemporary Art" presentation planned in February

The following press release was submitted by the Teaneck Public Library:

The Newark Museum Speakers Bureau is scheduled to visit the Teaneck Library to present a slide-lecture American Modern and Contemporary Art on Friday, February 15, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. as part of the Isabelle & Sol Hermalyn lecture series.

American Modern and Contemporary Art takes the audience through the developments in American art of the last 100 years.  The presentation starts at the beginning of the twentieth century, describing the influence of Alfred Stieglitz and the manner in which the 1913 Armory show introduced the American public to modern art and inspired American artists to carve a new independent identity.  The presentation details the evolution of American art with examples which best illustrate the different artistic themes and expressions from then until today.  Featured artists include Edward Hopper, Berenice Abbott, Sol Lewitt, Isamu Nogushi, Andy Warhol, Duane Hanson, Louise Nevelson, Faith Ringold and many others.

The Teaneck Library offers programs such as American Modern and Contemporary Art to the community and our members in order to share one of New Jersey’s wonderful cultural attractions,” remarked Carol Anderson, Adult Program Coordinator “Educational sessions such as this expose people to important works of art that they might never have the opportunity to see or learn about otherwise.”

The Speakers Bureau is a project of the Newark Museum Volunteer Organization.  Its goal is to bring the richness of the Museum’s world-class art collection to local communities.  Organizations are invited to contact the Museum for information about how to schedule a volunteer presentation for their groups by calling 973-596-5144, or by emailing speakersbureau@newarkmuseum.org.

In addition to its permanent collections, the Museum offers special exhibitions, gallery tours, art workshops, public programs, lectures and family activities.  Visit NewarkMuseum.org to learn more and explore what this Museum has to offer.

The public is welcome to attend this free program to be held in the library auditorium and to the coffee and socializing session that precedes it at 10:00 A.M.  The library is located at 840 Teaneck Road at the corner of Cedar Lane in Teaneck.
