Utah Arches Featured in Artist's Slide Show

Ray Turkin will be presenting a slide show, “Arches and Canyonlands National Parks”, at the Teaneck Public Library on Friday, May 2 at 10:30 a.m. as part of the Isabelle and Sol Hermalyn lecture series.

This slide show will take you to Utah to see some of the most spectacular arches. We'll hike to Delicate Arch, Mesa Arch, and Landscape Arch (the longest in the world.) We'll see very unusual canyons in Canyonlands National Park, of course. We'll take a side trip to Dead Horse Point State Park and will travel to nearby Colorado to see Colorado National Monument. Even if you've been to some of these natural wonders, you'll see them from a different perspective through Ray's lens.

“Light has always fascinated me,” said Turkin. “It brings out color, texture, and shapes. It helps to create moods. Whether it is the day’s first light, the soft light of an overcast day, or the bright light of the midday sun, light is the essence of photography.”

Ray’s interest in hiking and his extensive travel have afforded him the opportunity to capture nature’s beauty through this medium. His emphasis is on the use of natural light to bring out subtle colors, textures, and shapes, as well as to create moods.

He has exhibited extensively in solo and juried group shows, including the Salmagundi Club in New York City, and has received numerous awards for his work. In addition to commercial and portrait photography, Ray photographs for artists who need  images of their work, both two dimensional and three dimensional, for posting on their web sites, submission to galleries, and publication.

He teaches a course called "The Basics of Digital Photography" at The Art School at Old Church in Demarest, was an instructor at the Teaneck Community Education Center, and gives private instruction. He also taught a workshop on photographing flowers at The Art Center of Northern New Jersey in New Milford. In addition, he conducts slide presentations that showcase locations where he has traveled and has held various “Meet the Artist” events.  

Ray offers an extensive selection of note cards with his photographs on the front. These include scenics, flowers, sunsets, animals, seasonal/holiday, and, on a lighter side, teddy bears.

Ray is a member of the Teaneck Chamber of Commerce and the Bergen Networking Group.  Ray and his wife Edie have been Teaneck residents for over 35 years.

The public is welcome to attend this free program to be held in the library auditorium and to the coffee and socializing session that precedes it at 10 a.m. The library is located at 840 Teaneck Rd. at the corner of Cedar Lane in Teaneck.
