Police: Tree Branches, Pipes Used in Teaneck Park Brawl

About 30 people detained at Votee Park

Seven people were arrested Thursday night in connection with a large fight involving baseball bats, aluminum pipes and tree branches at Teaneck’s Milton Votee Park, authorities said.

Teaneck police detained about 30 people after rushing to reports of people fighting with bats near the basketball courts around 11 p.m., Detective Lt. Andrew McGurr said Friday morning. One person, who told police he fell during the melee, was treated at Holy Name Medical Center for a large gash to his head.

Authorities charged six adults with rioting and weapons offenses in the fight, along with a juvenile, according to police.

About an hour later, a car was boxed in by three other vehicles at Cedar Lane and River Road and its back windshield smashed out with a baseball bat, McGurr said. Township police stopped one of the cars and arrested three adults and two juveniles.

Police believe the two incidents are related and a motive for the confrontations in under investigation, McGurr said. Officers recognized some of the people stopped in the car from the park brawl.

Vernon Lincoln, 19, Tyree Bryant, 18, and Dejon Harrison, 18, all from Englewood, were charged with criminal mischief and disorderly conduct for smashing the window, according to police.

The adults arrested in the Votee Park fight were Alexander Cordova, 26, of Hackensack, Devaunte Locadia, 18, of Teaneck, Rory Freckleton Jr., 19, of Teaneck, Davane Connell, 18, of Hackensack, Christopher Tawadros, 18, of Teaneck, Arie McCray, 18, of Fair Lawn, police said.
