Mega-Mall Won't be Open for 2014 Super Bowl, Report Says

Lawsuit filed by Jets and Giants could be cause for latest delay in Meadowlands project, according to report.

The massive American Dream mall in the Meadowlands will not be ready in time for the 2014 Super Bowl being held at nearby MetLIfe Stadium, WYNC.org reported.

According to the report, sources said the project "won't be ready" in time despite Governor Christie's claim in 2010 that the mall, once called Xanadu, would be open for the game.

American Dream was missing from a list of Super Bowl events announced last week by the Christie Administration.

NJ.com reported one possible cause for the latest delay could be a lawsuit filed by the Giants and Jets seeking to keep the mall closed on game days.

Construction began in 2004, but was halted in 2009 before current owner Triple Five took over the troubled project. An indoor ice rink, water park and miniature golf are among some of the planned attractions at American Dream.
