Bites Nearby: Main Street Grille & Tavern

Donna Colucci stopped by the Main Street Grille in New Milford back in January so this weekend Patch is taking a look back

Did you know that 200 Main Street in New Milford  was built back in the late 1800s? This stagecoach stop offered rooms and meals for 25 cents. During the years that followed, this quaint historical site has been home to many eateries.

Main Street Grille and Tavern opened in the fall of 2010 serving up their famous sliced steak and thin crust pizza. Owner Tim Kalavrouziotis is not a newcomer to the restaurant business. Twenty five years ago, his family owned and operated Lido’s II at this same historical site. Today, Tim has partnered with Chef Damian Bonilla to make Main Street Grille and Tavern the new hot spot in the borough.

Main Street Grille and Tavern’s menu includes an array of appetizers, salads, pizza, burgers and sandwiches. They also have a wide variety of Italian favorites and pasta bowls for the carb lover in all of us. Make sure to ask for their daily food specials. They also offer a specialty drink of the day at their bar. For only $6, I was more than happy to try their green concoction dubbed the "New Milford Martini". The green color is an homage to our New Milford Knights. It had just the right amount of flavor and kick.

For starters, I thoroughly enjoyed the appetizer special which was Bruschetta on Toast for $8.95. It had the perfect amount of parmesan cheese mixed into it. It was coupled with a mozzarella, sun-dried tomato and roasted pepper salad -- what a beautiful and colorful presentation. Can you say delish?

For my main course, I chose the Chicken Capri special for $11.95.  It was lightly sautéed in a fine white sauce with asparagus, mushrooms and scallions served over penne pasta. It was just delightful.

Be sure to save some room for dessert. They offer New York style cheesecake, chocolate mousse cake, ice cream and my all-time favorite, rice pudding.

Their bar is fully stocked with top shelf liquors and the bartenders are also happy to adapt your drink to your taste buds.

Main Street Grille and Tavern has an attached parking lot as well as on street parking for the overflow. Enjoy Main Street Grille and Tavern for their home style cooking without the hassle of leaving your town. Until next time, eat well!
