Bites Nearby: New Milford Deli Serves Up Some Sizzling Steak Sandwiches

This week I went to get my usual, the sirloin steak sandwich with caramelized onions au jus at New Milford Deli and Catering. This is not your average deli. It has been voted one of the Best Delis in New Jersey, according to the Better Business Bureau. Proud owner Alex Garibian and I sat down together, while I sampled the homemade lobster bisque soup. By the way, it was fantastic.

Garibian and his sister, Ellen Kazanjan, have been cooking their homemade delicacies, a blend of Mediterranean, Eastern European and American cuisines since 1996 right here in the Brookchester Shopping Center. Along with the usual selections of Boars Head and Thumanns cold cuts, they make their own sirloin and roast beef. Garibian also makes 60 pounds of fresh mozzarella a week!

This family owned and operated deli cooks nine different hot entrees daily including chicken cutlet stuffed with mushroom, cheese and broccoli, salisbury steak, pepper steak, chicken francaise and so much more.. One of their favorite homemade soups is the German beef cabbage. Visit on Friday for special fish dishes, salmon stuffed with roasted peppers, crab cakes, fish cakes and golden fried flounder to name just a few.

While I was drooling over how delicious my soup was, Carl Lind of Bergenfield walked in to pick up his usual order, a dozen fish cakes. “I come here at least once a week to get them," Lind said. "They’re excellent."

I love that New Milford Deli and Catering offers a “box lunch"--a complete nutritious meal in a bag, great for students going on a field trip or a get together.

New Milford Deli and Catering has a phenomenal catering business ranging from small gatherings to high end white glove service including wait staff. Recently, they catered a media event for J. Crew.
