According to Larry Bauer, President of the Chamber, “many people, residents and businesses alike, do not understand the role a Chamber of Commerce plays within the community. Those interested either in moving to Teaneck, desirous of opening a business, visiting Teaneck and looking for things to do, or just seeking information about a specific business, usually reach out to the Chamber.  The Chamber is concerned with all businesses, including the 5 business districts (Cedar Lane, Degraw Avenue/Queen Anne Road, Glenpointe, North Teaneck Road and West Englewood Avenue). While some districts have their own associations, the goal of the Chamber is to bind them all together. The concept of competition does not hold anymore today, rather by viewing competition as an opportunity opens many more doors and provides for a more creative business environment. Especially in today’s tough economic times, healthy competition can provide unique opportunities that benefit all, businesses and the community alike.  Members of the Teaneck Chamber of Commerce not only can provide stability to the commumity, but they also can and do, promote awareness within the community. Many Chamber members contribute time, money, products and services to many of Teaneck’s organizations and their various individual fund-raising activities. By supporting Chamber businesses you are helping yourself and you are helping the community.”

The Teaneck Chamber of Commerce together with the other Chambers that comprise the Inter Chamber Consortium (ICC) have been instrumental in taking the first steps of getting Bill S2874/A4006 to the State Legislature. This bill will allow sole proprietors and businesses with up to 50 employees the opportunity to join an affinity group (such as the Teaneck Chamber of Commerce) and secure group health insurance. Something small businesses in New Jersey currently cannot do. The Teaneck Chamber together with its fellow ICC members are actively seeking support from NJ businesses (Chamber members and non-members alike) through  a massive letter writing campaign urging Senator Nia Gill to put this bill on the Commerce Committee’s agenda and to forward letters to their State representatives to vote YES on this bill. Senator Loretta Weinberg is one of the co-sponsors of this bi-partisan sponsored bill. The Chambers of Commerce, especially Teaneck, are most appreciate of her support of this bill.

The Teaneck Chamber is also a strong supporter of the Teaneck International Film Festival (Nov 11 thru 13)who from the beginning, the goal was to present thought-provoking and inspiring independent features, documentaries, and shorts that would bring folks together. As they prepare for their sixth year, they are proud of their reputation as the best film festival this side of the George Washington Bridge. An important goal of this festival is to introduce out-of-towners to Teaneck, its stores and dining establishments. For more information visit www.teaneckfilmfestival.org.

Plan now to keep the date open! In keeping with its tradition, the 10th Annual Teaneck Chamber of Commerce Community Awards Dinner will be held October 27th starting at 5:30pm at the Marriott Teaneck at Glenpointe.

There will be an opportunity for businesses to meet, greet and exchange business cards. The event will also provide an opportunity for attendees to meet members of the business community.  The evening will continue with a cocktail reception, cash bar, sit down dinner followed by the evening’s festivities.
