What Should Replace Teaneck Kosher Supermarket?

What's on your wish list for the Teaneck Road site?

Teaneck Kosher Supermarket, at Teaneck Road and Forest Avenue, recently closed and the owners launched a new market in Bergenfield.

The large corner space is now empty and its future use remained unclear.

What would you like to see at the site? Another supermarket? Maybe a new cafe or retail space?

There is no parking there to accommodate much of anything. I'm surprised the kosher supermarket lasted as long as it did.

I can’t believe it lasted as long as it did either! How about bringing back Leo’s the soda fountain, candy and card store that serviced the neighborhood when I was growing up in the neighborhood. We used to stop there to have chips and a soda after walking home from TJ every day. (Ahhh Memory Lane…). Now there is a 7-11 a few blocks down on Teaneck Road & Circle Driveway where the Carvel used to be. There’s lots of parking and a viable dry cleaning business there too. At Teaneck Rd & Forest Ave., maybe a small sit-down place serving the community (fried fish, ham & eggs, cornbread, toast break fasts and sandwiches for lunch) that sells home-made food, lotto and the daily papers. That would probably do well. It could serve more of a walk-in clientele from the community and the students from the Community School and the High School and NYC communters could go there for quick breakfast sandwiches & juices/coffee in the morning and sandwiches & hot meals for lunch and after school snacks; while community folks can take-home or eat-in at dinner time. Just keep the food honest and the prices low. That's my suggestion!

How about another vacant storefront like all the others in this impossible-to-do-business-in town? Or maybe a kosher chinese takeout. Oh no, the ex-mayor would never allow one of those in town to compete with the Chopstix place he owns. He'll find some way to keep them out.
