Oscars Red Carpet Plastic Surgery Disasters: How To Choose The Right Plastic Surgeon

Some older (but no-longer familiar faces) were the source of lots of buzz right after the Oscars, with people wondering what plastic surgeons were thinking when they worked on Kim Novak, Liza Minnelli or Goldie Hawn’s famous faces.

This raises the question, “How do I pick the right plastic surgeon?”

Whether a prospective patient is simply considering a little Botox or Restylane for a quick, pre-holiday touch up, or that long-awaited nose job, or is ready to consider a complete face lift at age 60, these are big and often expensive decisions that can have a meaningful impact on both one’s sense of self and how the world sees them.

Dr. Laurence Milgrim, a double board certified facial plastic surgeon with offices in New Jersey and affiliations in NY, offers the following suggestions:

1. Credentials are important but don't necessarily correlate to good results. See if the plastic surgeon you are going to use has an aesthetic eye for form. Look around his office. Are the pictures of his family posed or are they natural? Is his bookshelves kempt or messy? These are indications of how he views the world and how he view aesthetics.

2. Does the plastic surgeon listen to you or tell you what you should have? Those that are arrogant will tell you what you need and it may not coincide with how you view your world or would want the world to view you. Just because your brows are low doesn't mean a brow lift is in order. Does your plastic surgeon listen to you and tailor what he offers to your needs?

3 Look for a plastic surgeon whose results show improvement and a natural look rather than those whose results attempt to make a drastic change.
