Electricity Shut Off Planned in Teaneck

Public Service Electric and Gas plans to temporarily shut down power in sections of Teaneck Saturday to conduct “major improvements” on the area’s electricity supply, according to a statement issued by the township Monday.

The specific areas of town were not immediately released, but the company planned to turn off service for an hour starting at 8 a.m., the statement said.

“During the changeover to the new system, electrical service will be interrupted. If weather is inclement on Dec. 15, then the interruption of service will occur on Sunday, Dec. 16 from 8 to 9 a.m. regardless of weather conditions,” the statement said.

Fire and burglar alarms could be triggered by the outage. Alarm companies should be alerted to the service interruption, PSE&G advised.

Residents with emergency generation equipment are asked to notify PSE&G by calling 800-436-7734.

The company has been working to upgrade electricity substations and other infrastructure in the Teaneck-area. Work is underway to expand the Bergenfield-Teaneck station, and the company plans to upgrade another substation near the Richard Rodda Center.
