Footprints Lead Police to Alleged Burglars, Sandy Outages in Top Reads

Public Service Electric and Gas funneled incorrect information to Teaneck officials in the wake of Superstorm Sandy and the township should work to expand its own communications for future disasters, town council members and residents said Tuesday.

Teaneck is one of more than a dozen Bergen County towns where Public Service Electric and Gas repair crews will be focusing efforts over the weekend, the company said Saturday morning.

A system for dispensing gas is to begin Saturday to combat long lines at the pump in 12 counties throughout the state.

Teaneck’s only movie theater, the Cedar Lane Cinemas, has closed, company representatives confirmed Friday.

Scores of firefighters battled a smoky three-alarm blaze at a former Teaneck soap factory sparked as a work crew was inside the complex Monday afternoon, officials said.

More than half of Public Service Electric and Gas customers in Teaneck were without electricity after an original company estimate said service would be restored by late Saturday night. 

Gov. Chris Christie said thousands of added workers from across the country are set to arrive in New Jersey, after he pressed utility companies to speed up repairs.  

Three burglars were arrested after Teaneck officers followed a trail of footprints from the scene of a break-in to a nearby home where two of the thieves were found, township police said Tuesday.

A drunk driver turned herself in to county police hours after she fled the scene of an accident on Route 4 that left four people injured late Sunday, authorities said. 

Gov. Chris Christie has signed an executive order suspending Bergen County's Sunday sales restriction, known as Blue Laws.
