PSE&G to Distribute Water, Ice at Garden State Plaza

Free ice and water will be distributed to PSEG customers without power at Garden State Plaza on a first come, first served basis between 8 am and 4:30 pm

All PSEG customers who can traverse their way to Garden State Plaza on Wednesday will be able to receive free water and ice from the electric company on a first come, first serve basis. PSEG will be distributing water and ice until 4:30pm.

According to a press release, "Power has been restored to 30 percent of the 1.4 million PSE&G customers that lost electricity as a result of Hurricane Sandy. Currently 900,000 PSE&G customers are without electricity."

Ralph A. LaRossa, president and chief operating officer of PSE&G, stated that the utility’s repair effort would “ramp up pretty quickly,” addressing the large transmission lines first, and moving to switching stations and sub-transmission lines before working on distribution lines, according to a northjersey.com report.

As a result of the power outages, downed trees and wires, Halloween trick-or-treating will be postponed until the weekend in all three towns. Parents who wish to do some trick-or-treating with their children can take part in the Garden State Plaza kids' Halloween Costume Parade at 4pm Wednesday.

The mall posted on its Facebook page that the event will still take place, beginning near the Playtown by Joe's American Grill and Nordstorm. The mall itself will be open Wednesday 10am to 9:30pm with the anticipation of full openings by all of their retailers. Charging stations have been set up throughout Garden State Plaza as well.

The Department of Environmental Protection is advising all residents to conserve water in the wake of Hurricane Sandy as the power outages have resulted in both public nad private water utilities to use emergency generators to treat and pump water.

To report a power outage, call PSE&G’s Customer Service line: 1-800-436-PSEG or Tweet to @PSEGdelivers.
