Substation Problem Cited in Area Power Outages

Up to 2,000 lost power in Teaneck Sunday morning.

A circuit problem at a Public Service Electric and Gas substation in Ridgefield caused a power outage impacting more than 5,000 customers in towns including Teaneck and Ridgefield Park Sunday morning, a spokesman said.

Power went out at 9:17 a.m. and was restored by 10:27 a.m., said Fran Sullivan, the PSEG spokesman.

Up to 2,000 Teaneck customers were without service during the outage, according to the company's outage map. Outages were also reported in Bogota, Dumont and Moonachie.

Could it be that PSEG is working in cahoots with the people who make/sell gensets? Think of it, 12,000 homes in Teaneck. If 25 percent buy gensets, that's 3,000 gensets. At say $1,000 each, that comes to $3 million. I suggest that neighbors chip in to get 1 genset for, say, 4 homes and it be shared in 2 hour increments or some other arrangements. That will keep food from going bad and home temps. reasonable.

It seems to me that the more technology we aquire the more problems we face.I wonder if the company is really keeping their equipment current and up to date. That is the question that they should be addressing instead of making excuses about sub station failures, we have about had it with them and there tales of woe, but not afraid to ask for and get rate increases.
