2 Warming Centers Available in Teaneck [UPDATE]

Residents can stay overnight at township middle school. Updated utility company work schedule posted for Teaneck.

Two warming centers have been setup in Teaneck as scores of residents remain without power in frigid temperatures, days after Sandy hit the township.

Benjamin Franklin Middle School is open to residents until further notice, according to a township e-mail alert issued Sunday. The school is located on Windsor Road, near West Englewood Avenue.

"Residents may bring sleeping bags to remain in the facility throughout the night. Please remember to bring your own food," the alert said.

Saint Paul's Lutheran Church located at Church Street and Longfellow Place will also be open Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. and all day Monday, according to the township.

Although power has been restored to some areas of Teaneck, the latest work plan released by Public Service Electric and Gas showed an estimated 5,181 customers without electricity of the town's 15,892 customers.

The utility estimated it would restore service to 1,911 customers on Sunday, 1,545 on Monday and another 1,135 Tuesday, according to the plan.

PSE&G has said it is unable to provide details, and residents have been told service would be restored by Nov. 9.

"This represents the date we expect the vast number of customers to be restored. Most customers will be restored before that date. Due to the huge number of out-of-state crews assisting with the restoration, as well as the complex and variable nature of the damage at each restoration site, we cannot give more detailed information," the company said in a statement.

Who is in charge of keeping the lights on after dark at Votee Park - right across from BFMS - adds insult to injury for those who dont have power back. - Pretty insensitive. If you want to say that people use the park at night - please tell me who was there last night at 8pm in 40 degree or less weather.
