Award-winning Novelist to Speak at FDU’s Gene Barnett Literary Society

Teaneck, NJ (April 7, 2014) – The Gene Barnett Literary Society Lecture Series of Fairleigh Dickinson University will feature novelist Colm Tóibín on Tuesday, April 15, 2014. The title of his talk is “An Evening with Colm Tóibín.

Born in Dublin, Ireland, Tóibín is the author of nine novels, including the widely acclaimed and award-winning biographical novel of Henry James,The Master, for which he received the 2006 International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award and the Los Angeles Times Novel of the Year. He also is the author of Brooklyn, winner of the 2009 Costa Book of the Year. The Testament of Mary, was short listed for the Booker Prize in 2013. It was also adapted for the stage and opened on Broadway with Fiona Shaw. The adaptation has been nominated for the Tony Award for best new play and was released as an audio book voiced by three-time Academy Award winner, Meryl Streep.

Tóibín has published two short story collections and is a regular contributor to the Dublin Review, the New York Review of Books, and the London Review of Books. He is currently Mellon Professor in the Department of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University.

The lecture will be on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at 8 p.m. in the Wilson Auditorium, Dickinson Hall, on the Hackensack side of the campus. Copies of Tóibín’s books will be available for sale and signing after the Q & A session.

The evening is open to the general public with tickets at $10 per person. Tickets will be available at the door starting at 7:15 p.m. on the night of the lecture. The cost is free to the faculty, staff and students with valid FDU IDs. There are no advanced ticket sales or reserved seating.
