Bergen Author A.J. Colucci to Speak on “The Road to Getting Published”

Hackensack, NJ – A.J. Colucci will be speaking at Barnes & Noble, Riverside Square Mall on Route 4 in Hackensack, NJ on  Saturday, July 13 at 8 pm about her novel The Colony from St. Martin’s Press.

Colucci will discuss how she found an agent and publisher, the art of editing a manuscript and what publishers are looking for today, as well as the pros and cons of traditional publishers versus self-publishing. Whether you are thinking about writing a book, in the process of writing one or have one written, this presentation can help you avoid the pitfalls and put you on the right track. There will be a question and answer period and copies of her books will be available for signing.

“Writing a novel and getting published can take years,” Colucci said.  “Although there are more opportunities opened to writers than ever before, there are no shortcuts to success. Understanding how the industry works and having a clear vision of your goals will save a lot of time.”

Colucci’s second novel will be coming out in spring 2014 from St. Martin’s Press.  "My stories combine cutting-edge science with the fast pace of a thriller," said Colucci, whose novel, The Colony explores the science behind genetically engineered insects.  "I like to write about nature because it can be a brutal place—kill or be killed—but it's also filled with a sort of beauty and logic that makes you wonder which species are truly evolved.”  The Colony was given a starred review by Publishers Weekly, noting, "Colucci's exciting thriller debut...balances scares and science nicely. Michael Crichton fans will hope that this is but the first of many such outings from the author's pen."

A. J. Colucci resides in Mahwah with her husband and two children. A former newspaper reporter, magazine editor and corporate writer, she is now busy at work on her third novel.
